Welcome to the forum. With audio stuff you get what you pay for, you may be able to do that sub setup and it may sound good, I don't know because I've never heard of anyone doing anything like this. My opinion is that I don't think it will sound great without any amplification or cut-off control etc. What are you willing to spend on putting subs in your truck?

yeah i know it won't be perfect but i have some gift money ($50ish) to spend and the access cab has a pretty small interior--so i would like to keep the back seats usable and a small sub seems nice in theory.
The nice thing about a computer sub is i can adjust the volume easily on the sub. Also wondering if i spend more will i experience diminishing returns due to the size of the cab?

You will experience diminishing return no matter what because a lot of people who know how bad used electronics can be usually won't buy them at all or for very much. If you have some wood working knowledge you can build a box for about $20 that will fit a good sub. Coming from personal experiance here it's better to spend a little more and do it right the first time than to cut corners and try to save money. If you could spend about $150-200 you can get a really good sub setup that will sound good.

Your stock stereo will sound 100x better than some shitty $50 Walmart computer speakers.

    Save your gift card bro.

Back in high school I knew a guy who had a big power inverter and a Logitech 4.1 computer setup in his (drum roll please) geo metro...

It was better than his blown stock speakers, but me I'd take the $50 and buy nice headphones and use my mp3 player.. Not worth it.

Its more trouble than its worth, don't do it. Just find used subs on craigslist or save up. I put computer speakers in my Samurai when I was 16 because I had no stereo. It was a fun little project but it did not work well.

yeah i know its cheesy but it could work pretty well in theory. Power it through an inverter and plug it in through an rca splitter out of the aux

sounds like a nice 8" sub, or possibly even a 6.5" would be what your looking for then, hooked up to a real amp.

so i know there was some debate as to whether or not this was a good idea...
but i did it and its awesome!
i wont be the loudest car at the sideshow but it fills out the sound of my access cab really well.
so if you want a cheap subwoofer, i give this mod an enthusiastic YES!

I'll stick with my 8" sub. I couldn't bare to ever put computer speakers in a brand new truck regardless of my budget lol. If you enjoy it that's all that matters I guess.

i know its cheesy as hell but it looks fine and i didnt lose any seating or space.
i couldnt stand to do anything permanent to the truck and already had the parts. so if you want to help the sound out a little bit, don't be embarrassed youre not alone!;)
