Got the OEM hood protector from TRD Parts Center via Amazon for $120 vs. $160 at the dealer. A few changes from prior year 2nd gens. Installed tonight:

Nice. When you have time can you take a side profile shot of it as well? I'm debating whether or not to get one...

Sure...see below. I'm trying to remember how it fit on my 2006. It looks good from the front, but it seems like it sits well away from the hood from other angles. I've had a few minor chips on the hood already, so I'm focusing on function vs. looks for now....it has taken since October for Toyota to finally release this new version.

Is it attached with metal clips that slide over the top and bottom of the hood? If so keep an eye on the paint. My 2011 had thin tape they put on hood then the metal clips slide over the tape....started to wear the paint.

FYI - The hood changed for 2012, so 05-11 won't fit

Nice! I'm wanting to get one for mine.....glad I can see what it looks like for the 2012. I found some on www.streetsideauto.com for about $69 and thats auto ventshade and weathertech i think. No drilling required is the way to go!

I had the oem one thrown in for free when I bought the truck...after seeing what it did to the paint I ended up throwing it away in the trash...very bad design!!
Hopefully they got rid of the metal clips.

I don't know why everyone is hatin on the OEM one. I had one on an 06 til 2011 when I traded it in. I put on the deflector myself and it never did anything to the paint. I think people that had problems just did not put it on right?

Yes, it still has the metal clips that wrap around the hood.

Thank-you fafafahey. I thought maybe they improved on the way it attached to the hood. I guess not. I have had my OEM on less then a year and I have wear that is starting to damage paint. It was installed by the dealer. I have since taken it off and the dealer repaired the paint. I loved the protector it self but NOT how it attaches to the hood. Metal clips seem to be a poor design.

Bummer they didn't redesign it. After seeing the damage the clips caused (dealer installed with the tape underneth) and having to get the hood repaired i would have had far less paint damage without ever putting the shield on in the first place. I ended up finding one that attaches from underneth...

the oem one is nice though...just keep an eye on it and maybe replace the tape under the brakets once a year.
