to save the wire size goig from the cab switch, because lights require a larger amp draw, you should run like a 30 amp relay or whatever the maximum draw is and that will save any potential wires getting hot going into the cab

its a protection thing and safety

also dont forget your fuse

if you look at my gallery i have a simple aircompressor diagram

as well doing it this way, will not make the main power run through your switch, you could in theory than run it off an ignition source wire, which will than also make the oh fuck i left my cab ligts on and drained my battery down not ever happen
