Ruger LCP?

Anyone own one? Review on it?

I currently carry a Glock 26 when i'm meeting someone from online to sell/buy or going to the crap cities. So I really don't carry a heck of a lot right now - it stays beside my bed.

A lot of the stuff I wear you can slightly see the gun (IWB amazingly comfy holster). I'm really thinking of getting the Ruger LCP so it'll hide a bit better and I can get the same kind of holster I have now that I love.

I'm going to be a police officer by the end of the year and once that happens i'll carry pretty much all the time. I think it'll be a wise investment if it's going to hold up and not kick like crazy.

I was kind of going for the LC9 since I have a crap load of 9mm hollow points thanks to my FBI buddy.... but it looks a bit bigger.

Any help would be great! Thinking of purchasing within a week or so. I'll just keep the Glock for the nightstand and random target shots in the backyard. Or maybe on days I wear baggier clothing and just feel like it's a Glock day.

 

I have one and its great to just throw in your waistband and not worry about it. Its size is great i take it with me a lot in the summer time in FL just bc i can't conceal my 1911 very well. Now i would definitely go shoot one before you buy it. Its got a nice little punch to it and shoots a 3 ft fireball out the front of the barrel. I got a crazy good deal on it thats why i bought it but if i could go back and do it again i would totally get the glock 26. So it has its pros and cons. My wife has shot it a few times and hates shooting it at the range. She has shot it enough to get proficient with it and thats it.

 

Do you have the pinky ext. on it? I couldn't shoot my Glock 26 worth a crap without it.

My b/f has one but not sure when i'll be able to shoot it. I have a crap load of land to do so but am afraid to freak my horses out. He said the kick isn't that bad. So who knows?

I WILL have to qualify with this gun after I become a police officer if I plan to carry it.

Not has bad as a snub nose revolver is it? Because that thing sucked badly!

 

Yes i had the pinky ext. on it and i still have problems shooting it. Its just hard to keep rounds grouped because the muzzles kicks up. It doesn't kick as bad as a snub nose. Its just a small light gun so its gonna kick. The frame is plastic and the slide is metal so its very light.

 

i dont have the ruger, but i do have the taurus tcp. I was going to buy the ruger because of the name and there know quality, but after reading a lot of conceal carry magazines and forums i decided to get the tcp because of better reliability with different types of ammo and it being more accurate. I bought mine at a steal for 217 at a local gun shop here in NC.

I conceal carry everywhere I go and I keep it in a pocket holester and i dont think it could get any more confrontable. Its basically the same size as the LCP so you wouldnt have a problem putting the LCP anywhere

Yes the LCP is a little picky about ammo. Don't run cheap stuff through it. I had a big problem with it jamming on the feeder ramp and slicing the front of the bullet so it would throw the bullet all over the place. As soon as i changed out the ammo it was just fine.

 

Not sure about the3' fierball story, but I have had the LCP for about a year and a half. I had the pinky extenstion but swapped that out for a +1 mag extention so now it's 7+1 and I carry an extra clip with the mag ext too, so 15 rounds total. The gun jumps a little in the front but after you get used to it it's not to bad. Not like a snub nose, it just jumps because the gun is small and the grip isn't as easy to grab as a larger gun with a bigger grip. your entire hand will probably not grip the entire gun, but I am still pretty accurate with it for fairly long ranges (for a hand gun). I love the gun, I can carry it anytime of year no matter what I'm wearing somehow. Whether in a pocket, inseam holster or a coat, I can put it anywhere. I have never had any isues with any ammo. My friend has an older LCP (Pre recall) and my hollow points get jammed in his gun (so to speak). I have no problems. The hammer is guarded and the trigger requires a full trigger pull so there really isn't anyway you could ever say you didn't mean to pull the trigger. There is no safety and I still carry it with one in the chamber. There was a recall in the past due to the possibility of the gun fireing when a round was in the chamber if you dropped it...well, my gun was purchased in 2010 after the recall, I carry it with one in the chamber and I have dropped it and it di no fire by accident. The gun is rugged. I have seen the tcp but I personaly like the more rugged feel of the ruger. I feel like it could take a beating and still have no problems. I was excited to see the LC9 but after I handled it I was not very impressed (with the LC9). The LCP is not the most compfortable gun to shoot. The LCN is still kinda big for my needs of conceal carry so I don't see the need for the LCN which feels about as comfortable as the LCP. If I were to go with the 9mm I would get one with a more comfortable feel to it. I also have the Crimson trace laser which is nice too. I have it set to be accurate at about 50 feet. Since the laser is mountes below the barrel, really close and the laser is slightly low (who cares, the target is close) really far and the laser is high (but it's not a rifle). Again, I like it and would recemend it for conceal carry any day.

Shoot one BEFORE you buy one. I carry a Keltec p3at. Not much different from the LCP. I carry mine on duty as a back up and off duty in a Desantis pocket holster. I have to quilify with it every year. 40 round course all the way to the 15 yrd line. The gun will do it's part if you do yours.

They have quite a snap to them when you shoot. If your not a fan of the snub nose, you probably won't like this. It is difficult to get a good grip on the gun. That said, you're still going to want a gun that is lighter and thiner then your brick 26.- nice gun, just so wide.
Perhaps look at the Keltec .32. Same size as the LCP, but the .32 doesn't kick as much and you get an extra round.. Quite a few female Deputies I work with carry them. Oh, don't let people tell you "it's only a .32, it's not enough". I'll take 4 or 5 .32 rounds down range over 1 or 2 .380 rounds becase the gun is hard to handle. Speer and Hornadey both make nasty little rounds for them.

I wanted the lcp as I also felt it would be nice for somthing more concealed then my g27 "same as g26 but in .40 cal" I shot my friends and it didnt take to me so I went with the lc9 its close to the size of the g26/27 but is not as wide which is what counted for me as well as having 9mm rather then .380 was a plus imo.

 

I routinely carry my Bodyguard 380. I also trade off with my G26 and a Springfield 1911 V-10. I have owned an LCP and a Kel-Tec. Neither, in my opinion, is as accurate or reliable as my BG380 has been. I have yet to experience a malfunction with it after 600+ rds. Now, I am picky about ammo and am willing to buy the expensive stuff, but that's me.

When I am wearing bulking clothing, I always opt to carry as much stopping power as I can without concern for imprinting. So, anytime I can get away wit carrying a 9mm or .45, I will do so without question.

My buddy just bought a lc9 last week. While shooting it, it fail many times. The firing pin wasn't being struck hard enough. The gun also had some plastic parts that should be steel. I wasn't all that impressed. He sent it back to ruger.

 

The LC9 would be a great gun IF it didn't have a safety on it. As a ccw or a back up weapon I would not recomend it. Unless you put the training in to develop the muscle memory needed to click off the safety, it could be a death sentance. Case in point: there have been numerious Deputies in our office that have deployed their Taser and it did not fire. Why? The safety was still on. Doh! Even though we train on it EVERY year, it still happens.

 

Lol, the Taser is a funny tool. I've had my cartridge fall off mid foot persuit without me knowing it. I pulled the trigger and knew instantly from the sound that nothing deployed. The perp screamed like a girl and fell to the ground. After he was cuffed I could not stop laughing.

 

Everybody has their own reasoning why they carry the way they do like anything of course. I carry one in the chamber soley because if I have to draw it the next step is probably needing to pull the trigger. I don't want to have to rack one first...I really don't want to have to pull the gun either, but if I did there is a reason. Also, the laser I think is a poor reliability to count on. I think the purpose of laser sights isn't the benefit of accuracy, but more so, the intimidation to the person it's pointed at. My thoughts are, if I had to pull it Im willing to pull the trigger with one on the chamber ready to go, if the laser deters the target enough to not pull the trigger I win...if it dosen't "scare" the guy enough I will shoot...right where that little red dot is and I am safe regardless. Not a fan of warning shots ha ha ha but of course i'm not dirty harry or a cop either, I'm just a guy with a gun for the just in case scenario.

I have more pics if you care, Definatly shoot an LCP before purchase if thats the route you go. I didn't and was a little surprised, but as stated before I still love it... however my wife does not.

Hmm Ok I'll take the boyfriends this week and shoot it.

The G26 hides pretty decently except for the end of the grip kinda sticks out. That's the only "bulge" I get. Not sure if that's due to it's thickness or what.

I wonder if the LC9 would fit in my G26 holster just to see if it would hide any better? Worth a try?

I need to stop thinking about price and more on what would work better for me since by the end of the year I will be carrying a lot more.


I had a Kel Tec p11 (I think that's what it was I can't remember anymore.. 9mm). I was NOT impressed!!! Shot was horrible.. the sites would move EVERY time I shot. It was crap.
