    Hey dudes,

I personally have no complaints about my 2010 r/c manual 4x4, but I've only had it two weeks. However, I'm starting to get worried, because of all the bad things people have to say about their 2nd gen Tacomas on this forum. I have just under 40,000 miles now, and opted for the extended warranty to 100,000 miles.

What can I do to make sure my Tacoma doesn't fall apart? I'm already planning on a full snythetic oil change in the ft & rr diff, xfer case, transmission, and engine. Is there a way to search by vin# to see if I have a LUK or Aisin clutch installed? The clutch feels fine, aside from a notchy gearbox. Do the LUK clutches feel noticbly shitty compared to the Aisin type? What is a normal clutch service life?

I really want to drive this sucker to 200,000 miles, and plan on leaving it totally stock forever.

I'm talking about clutch fails at under 50,000 miles and rust issues on the frames.

There's over 45,000 members on this site. Most drive Tacos, with oh so many with 2nd gens. If someone has a problem, statistically a lot of others have that same problem with a pool that big, and EVERYONE gets to hear about it.

    Drive your truck.

rust happens to all vehicles, not really an issue with the second gens.

The clutch thing is an issue though, I guess a bunch of trucks got cheap non asin brand clutches that like to slip. Get it replaced under warranty if that happens.

Just look at it this way, you only read about the negatives because thats why people search for a forum. And besides its not often you just post to brag about how well your truck started every day for the last 5yrs without a hitch, the heater is always hot, AC is cold as it should be, everytime I've left my home in my truck I got where I was heading a few extra places and back home again without fail.
Negatives get discussed, positives get neglected, hell its a Tacoma!

I've owned all three. An SA pickup, a 1st Gen Tacoma, and now this 2nd Gen. My 2nd Gen stomps. Love love love love it. I have 70,000 on it. Bought it new. Never done anything but oil changes.

    But to answer you question:
yes 2nd gens are usually junk, I just must have a rare good one.

I have a 2008 4.0l quad cab and it's solid 120,000 miles and original everything minus brakes and u joints and new suspension. But it runs amazing no rust I did have an issue with lag but got it reprogrammed and did a tranny fluid swap haven't had an issue since.
