Sorry but if its bought someone is paying 6.25 % Mass sales tax on the remainder and it won't be me. Plus tax where ever you are I'm shure.

With the lease payment you will only have to pay interest on the loan you get at the end of the lease and sales tax on the 19,500

Every lease has a buyout at any time. That is the price to get the title. From there you simply have to pay sales tax in the state you plan to register.

Toyota is VERY slow with lease transfers. One option is to take it to a local dealer and do a "pass through" sale. They handle the paperwork. They send the buyer the title and the owner any residual money (purchase price minus buyout) afterwards. In this manner, it's instant and the dealer handles everything. They can even handle financing. However, the dealer will want at least a few hundred bucks.

I did this when I bought my truck and paid the dealer $400. They even handled shipping from CA to TN for me.

Also did this when I sold my wife's van. Because we leased a new van from them, they only charged a small doc fee.

FYI, you never have to double pay on sales tax... unless you underpay in the state you purchase from. Most states have reciprocal agreements where you buy in the other state, and upon registration pay in your local municipality at the current tax rate.

If you pay out of state tax at a percentage below your local municipality, then you've paid taxes on it... and only need to pay the difference (example... you pay 6.25, I pay 6.55, so I'd just pay my state the .30 and we'd be square).

If you paid say 6.56% in taxes where you are, then my municipality would just need proof that I paid taxes, would see that I paid MORE than they charge, and they'd not charge any additional taxes. No different than buying a TV out of state or anything else.

I just say this so you don't lose out on a potential sale by worrying about taxes. You've already paid taxes (I understand it's a lease and all)... and if you sold then your state typically wouldn't come after YOU for the sales taxes at all, as they'd have no reason to as you didn't buy anything. You sold it, you aren't a business, they won't collect sales tax. If they do... then that's the first state I've ever heard of that requires that to happen. I've bought many vehicles out of state and never once run into such a situation from both private sellers and dealers.
