Does that fact the mine is only a 4 speed and not a 4X4 make a difference if I put a camper on?

if u go off roading, yes. if u dont upgrade your leaf springs, and have the camper on, NOT an A.R.E or leer (an actual camper) yes. all depends on the weight of what u are hauling. I know 4x4 have better stock leaf packs. Just get the Pre runner:D

    Thanks Nick,

but I already bought the 4 cyl. :(

I'm a bit confused the way your reply is worded...I guess you are saying that an A.R.E. or Leer camper is ok, because they are lighter?

Let me ask it this way...Is it safe to put a light fiberglass camper (ARE, Leer) on my truck the way I bought it... non 4X4, 4 cyl. 4 speed, 15 inch tires, regular springs, etc.?

In all honesty I wouldn't worry too much about it. If there's payload sag issues, there's always the option of an add-a-leaf or airbags.

What's the weight of this camper top?

Sounds like you got a 5-lug by your tire size. If so then you picked a model that will get some of the best mileage of the bunch. Even better, you won't have to worry about that front diff growling at you down the road.

Thanks TH...I'll try to enjoy it. :) I actually love the way it drives...I just kinda miss that 5th gear, but I guess I don't really need it.

Iroh...I'm not sure what the camper weighs, since I haven't bought one yet...btw...I'm looking for a used one. :)

    Nah, you're good man.

Stop second guessing yourself. Put your camper shell on and go on the road. I'll tell you to get the lightest, lowest profile camper that meets your needs - but I'd tell that to ANYONE.

    I love my 4 banger.

And to definitively answer your repeated question: the only automatic available with the 4 cylinder is the 4 speed automatic. Whenever anyone's talking about the "5 speed" with a 4 banger - it's a stick.

    Thanks BJM,

    I'll do that! :)

Actually, someone (Brow) did answer that question of the 4 speed..I just used to have a 5 speed little D50 truck...so that's why I feel like there is something missing on this new truck. It feels weird that the 4th gear doesn't kick in until like 65 mph.

u should have no probs man with those. and by the way, modding a 5 lug, (from what i have seen) has been cheaper than my six lug. but, if u loved it when u got it, stick with it. I got my truck used. and i love it. Its a v6. i didnt get the 4 bcuz i may have wanted more later. just my thinking. but, u can always get another one, for fun:D ( down the road of course)

for me, the V6 was a step up in gas milage.
I used to drive a 2005 dodge ram 1500 with tow package, six inch lift, huge ass tires (forgot size, bigger than 35s) and it had a 5.9 in it (non hemi, Dodge decided to make a gas competitor to a diesel) its nickname, Stupid 8 miles per gallon Dodge.

So you made a good choice either way, BE HAPPY:D:D
    YOU HAVE A TACOMA:cool:

If you are putting a cab high topper on it most of them are only about 250 lbs. Are you thinking cab high topper or a camper? There would be a big weight difference between the two.
