What's a 1911?

The early FN stuff was well made, the last ones I looked at, the quality was way off, I'd even say cheesy. Now, that's been several years ago, things may have changed. And I'm not saying the 1911 is the end all pistol either, (there are cheesy copies of it out there as well) but, for a product to still be around, and function well after over hundred years, does say something.

 

with a real gun belt and a real holster then the weight wont matter...and they hide well because they are so flat

 

The best attribute is that the trigger pull can be safely tuned down to about 3 pounds...by those that know what they're doing.

When dry firing it's the cleanest 'click' you've ever felt or heard.

Just as good as what? No striker fired pistol is in the same league as a decent single action gun, as far as trigger pull goes.

 

I have a few of each, Glocks, XD`s, XDm`s, Browning HP`s, Kel Tec`s, in 1911`s I have standard GI`s, semi custom`s and full custom`s

Nothing wrong with any of the brands I have listed, they all have their place in the gun world

My favorite will always be a 1911

 

No, I'm not saying those, and others are not fine, even very fine weapons. I personally don't like anything striker fired, that said, I don't leave the house without a KelTec in my pocket. It's just to easy to carry. I like my Sigs and H&Ks better, (SA, DA) something with a hammer. That comment was really toward those that in response to ANY hand gun thread, and not even reading the OPs question, wants or needs, just post, Glock FTW, or XD this, or M&P that. I wonder how many XD owners know there guns are made in Croatia? But I, like you, love a long-slide .45 1911.

 

the Apex kit you can have a 2-3 pound trigger or up to a 5.5 or so....im not saying its exactly the same but its very sweet

 

OK, I got what you were saying now. I just know with those types of pistols the trigger travel is long (your actually cocking the piece with the trigger pull).

 

I agree on a few of your points, like your first statement. But then, you scare the shit out of me in your second. I understand about the slim profile thing, (unfortunately I don't have that concern) and I very seldom carry my Kimber. But the part were you say it's got a TWO pound trigger, I'm pretty sure "most" experts agree that 3 1/2lbs is the lightest one should go with this type of firearm should ever have. Then you mention that you've had the SAFETY slide/click off? I wouldn't own a gun that does/did that. And lastly, if it don't point/aim as well as your other weapons, that's all on you. My very best at this, a little Walther P22, why, cause I've shot a zillion rds through it, next, my USP 9mm/Sig 226 9mm, cause I've only have several thousand rds through them, then my .45, I'm only at just over 3500 rds through it. But I do love them.

 

I totally understand, about carrying that weapon, (can't help but wonder if that has some bearing on your thoughts of a 1911 as a whole). IMO it needs to go to a smithy to be gone through. Again, I'd NEVER carry anything I didn't have 100% confidence in, especially with the hammer back, cocked and locked. Of course my H&K USP has this option, (variant #1) but I carry with hammer down and rely on a DA first pull. Even that's as good as "most" Glocks, then I've got a pretty sweet single action pull on the rest of the mag.

 

i think on the M&P its cocked when the slide goes back and the sear is holding the striker back and when you pull the trigger it just lets the striker fly...

 

Let's not forget General John T. Thompson with some other men & Auto- Ordnance gave us the Thompson Submachine Gun or Tommy Gun in 1919.
Our troops had bolt action rifels he gave them the Auto & Semi-auto .45 cal. Thompson's the troops could use the same rounds in eather the 1911 or Tommy.
It was sold to civilians in 1921 as the M1921. The rest is history.
Berreta makes a CX4 carbine it's semi-auto and only holds 8 rounds. It's a nice carbine someone should make a 20-30 round mag. for it.

 

i like the keltec sub2k carbine it folds in half is extremely light and you can get one that uses glock mags so 33 round 9mm or 31 round 40 caliber is an option....

add a glock in the same caliber and you can easily carry both in a standard briefcase and no one would ever know

 

M&P pistols are a striker fired design, just like Glocks and XDs.
