I am interested in what other 2012 owners are doing / thinking about doing... or other observations and info re 2012 grille...

Check my little 5-minute Photoshop grille mockup in the pic. A good look can probably be achieved, but the structural/mechanical details are TBD, for me at least. I am sure someone else will come up with a turn-key solution for 2012's, but meantime I am looking, thinking, and contemplating maybe some experimentation. That gash-dang rearward kink and freakin' compound curves make a puzzle, but the big ol' steer-lookin' belt buckle thing in the center of the grille has got to go. I think I am going to need to order a backup factory grille insert. :)

Meantime my formerly chrome, now black grille surround is going back on and the contemplation and courage-building begins.

If you have any pics, concepts or other stuff on this subject, I'd love to see them.

Thanx Murph. I'm thinking of DIY. Homer's in business, so I wouldn't ask him to give me free tips to help me NOT buy one of his, once he invents it. I've seen his work, so I am sure it will be good. Perhaps I'll screw mine up so bad in trying to design and do my own that a Homer grille will be my "bail" option. I don't know how he could collaborate without basically just giving away trade secrets and work-product in the form of experience accrued. Am I wrong?

This is all no major deal for me. I'm just a skilled fiddler and tossing this out for Sunday fun.

Not all business people are the same. I've met quiet a few business people on TW and they are happy to help. If you feel bad about it or are appreciative, give the person a few dollars for his/her help.

Yup Night, there are all kinds out there. I won't hesitate to consult a pro or guru here when I am nearer to doing something beyond the blackout on the grille, and pay a fee or what have you if that's involved. What constitutes "freeriding" depends on each business model. I just wanna avoid toes until I know the lay of the land.

How did you remove the grille surround? Did you have to remove the whole grille? I plan on doing mine in the morning...

I realize the grill itself is photoshopped...the op mentioned his former chrome grill surround.
This is the part I was referring to " Meantime my formerly chrome, now black grille surround is going back on and the contemplation and courage-building begins."

I believe there are some small tabs that you press down. That should release the grill.

They have several tabs, and counted 9 torx screws along the bottom. My problem is when the screws get backed out so far they get wedged on a piece of metal.

Where did you order your color match grill? I tried and my local stealership had no idea, and I can't seem to find a part number. Also how much if you don't mind me asking?

FFMedic - What he's got there looks like the TRD Sport grille surround. The Sport is color matched as opposed to chrome on an O.R. You'd have to tell them you want the Sport surround for your color truck.

I would much rather have the color matched grille surround. The dealer said I have to buy the grille, which I dont need. I guess I'm just going to paint mine for now.

ordered it from my local dealer. i think it was around 250 i have the part number still, i will post it up shortly

yep that is what i ordered.

    that is correct and
i bought my new grill and sold off my old chrome grille since it still has a high value due to it being a 2012 not to many chrome grilles on market yet for about 170 and bought my new grill for about 250.
so for a about a 100bucks and i didnt have to paint or worrying about the color not matching issue and chipping. i think its worth the 100bucks and the piece of mind

Thanks for the part number, I swear the local stealership can't look anything up. I had to use this forum to find the part number for the net in the center console, bc they could not find it. Appreciate it greatly.
