Why do Americans still use slotted screws ?

Try taking off a panel on an airplane that has been flying for the past 50 years that is a slotted screw... Luckily, most of them have gone to torx screws, or are #4 phillips. But, you still run into quick access panels with airlocs that are flat heads. If it was just me putting the panel on all the time, it would be no problem. But you get all of the idiotic new kids that don't know how to use the proper sized flat head for the job.

 

Slotted screws suck

 

The Airloc is not a screw. It is a quarter-turn stud fastener, and the orientation of the slot visually indicates by its alignment whether the fastener is secure or not, which is very beneficial for walk-around preflight inspections from the ground.

I know this, but it is still a slotted screw type fastener. And when you have retarded ground crew (crew chiefs) that don't know how to use the proper size screw driver they end up rounded out and worn. Only been working on jets with these (60 yr old jets) since 2002.
