What 9mm did you own? Why did you get rid of it? You cant know if .45 is for you if you have not had a 9mm too.

Had this discussion with a LEO buddy that carried a .45 service weapon. He would not shut-up about the stopping power of that round. I asked if he would allow me to conduct a test:

    A. Shoot him in his issued vest with a 147 grain, +P, 9mm, JHP round
    B. Shoot him without his vest with same round

He said "No way", and of course I had to ask why. He explained that that would be ludicrous, and he might be injured. Now here's a guy that is blinded by hype, yet will NOT back up his assertions with a personal test. So in the end, he admitted that a well-placed 9mm round would in-fact cause life-threatening injuries. Then I showed him this: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=88091

I have carried 9mm pistols on-duty and off for over 26 years, and discharged said weapons with good results. The 9mm round is lethal.

Just a quick answer - not that I owe an answer to anyone - but out of respect. Carried a 9mm (Beretta) for many years - carried a S&W 6906 (plain clothes assignment) and have done some research on 9mm. Like I said - which is my opinion - I prefer a .45. It has little to do with which gun I owned - it has more to with the entire weapon system - the gun, the round and the style that I might implement that system. As far as capacity - for any of you that study tactical/defensive use of handgun (which the only reason to carry a handgun is not to expect to use it - if you expect to use a gun take the biggest you have!) if you need a magazine greater than seven - you better back up and take a look at what your tactical needs are.

So - personal preference and empirical evidence aside - of which there is clearly more the former than the latter - I will carry my .45 that I have trained with and understand and you carry what you want. It really is what makes this a great place - but don't base judgements of what I do on false beliefs, the myth of magazine capacity or that I just haven't tried the "right" gun. So - I have owned and have been issued 9mm -- rest assured I have some reason to think my weapon system (EDC handgun) is the right one for me. Thank you for taking time to reply to my post - I wish you safety in all you do!!

i have 2 10mm's it's an awesome smoking fast round, i would advise against buying it unless you reload or you'll go bankrupt

that being said i carry a G29 loaded with double tap 200gr HP's when ATVing down south for piece of mind against bears:eek:

and 10mm will drop a bear no problem

.45 hands down, bigger bullet bigger hole

Anyone that knows or has read the research and real life data that Doc Roberts has had experience with through the years has heard or read that doc`s final statement is always the same, the bigger the hole the better

out of respect for the 45acp my G21 holds 13+1, that puts your 9mm at ONE round more

like i said i chose 9mm "if you can only have one" gun but not every 45acp pistol is plaigued with the 1911's capacity

    Still trying to decide...
Really, you can get ridiculousness with the capacity debate...
    9mm (33 rounds)
    .40 (22 rounds)
    .45 (22 rounds)

Doc and I agree to disagree. He loves a 1911 with 230 grain +p Ranger. I prefer something not as loud and that I can follow up faster with... so I carry a 9mm with 127 +p+ Rangers, 147 Ranger or Gold Dot 124 +p. No question his ammo produces slightly larger permanant cavaties... but they both suck compared to a rifle.

Anyone can disagree with Doc Roberts all they want, it still does not make them right, this topic has been his job for more years than many of the people that claim to know so much on this topic have even been alive

This thread is about pistols, with a rifle that is a totally different conversation, if I need to grab my AR its always closeby also, but anyways to get back on topic, I feel quite sure that the Op intended this thread to be about 2 pistol calibers

I also have some 124+p Gold Dot in one of my Glocks and I can get back on target just as fast with one of my 1911`s using 230 Gold dot

Maybe it`s because I used to send 10k rounds downrange a year in .45 acp

Actually my XD in .40 cal has the most recoil of any pistol that I own

Bigger holes cause more tissue damage and bigger holes leak more fluids, it`s just that simple

Anyone that has very little knowledge and want to learn about this subject

Here is one of the best reads on the internet if you truely want to learn

Having used both as an issued carry firearm with the state police I would have to say the 45 hands down especially in colder climates where heavy winter jackets/coats are used. This argument will go round and round and round but in my opinion the 9mm is an inferior round to the 45. This is also the opinion of the major law enforcement community both state and federal. An important note: the 9mm is perfectly capable of being a deadly round as long as the shot placement is right as with the 45.

The .460 is only in a 1911 conversion correct? I honestly dont know. I know guns, love guns and do a lot of hunting but everythihng I have is store bought, all factory stuff, not modified or home grown. I'm just curious since I don;t realyl know for sure.
