So I'm charging my Gens Ace batteries for the first time with the Thunder AC680 and I have a quick question.

When I choose to balance charge, when should I start worrying about the disparate voltages per cell? Specifically, while charging, the first cell is consistently about .02-.04V lower than the second cell.

The second cell is now at 4.20V and it is teetering between 4.19 and 4.21 while it is peak charging.

I'm guessing the first cell is now going to be charged up to match the second cell, and it will leave the second cell where it is?

These LiPo batteries scare the shit out of me - this is my first time ever messing with them.

I think you will find that the majority will say electric.

I have both and would hate to be stuck with just one of them because they're both so much damn fun.

I don't about those but I've heard of people having good luck with Solar servos and off the top of my head I know the HiTEC HS-7944SH and the HS-7950TH are considered "hi performance" servos. Coreless seems to be the way to go with servos lately. I'm probably gonna need to find a new one myself now that I've got a fuck-ton of power. :D

Yea, that would take care of it. I would've got one if it had an EC3 on it.

    Yeah.
I wouldn't worry about a few hundredths of a volt. Mine are never perfectly even, and I balance charge every time.

I just ordered a lipo charging bag to be safe -- apparently ROAR rules actually require them, not that I would ever be in a situation to be DQ'd, but sometimes I get bored waiting and walk away. Just keep a fire extinguisher handy, and set your charger up right.

This new-fangled stuff is a far cry from the old timer chargers, all the beeps and whistles and tunes these chargers play. And 20 minutes on a battery? Geez, what is in there? Must be nucular stuff or somethin. Dilithium crystals maybe.

Speaking of Dilithium crystals, I can't wait to get my truck back together and running!

    Talk about an upgrade!

    Yeah.
Hey Danglin, just a note here. I used to NEVER have to use Loctite on my pinions in the old days, and never stripped a set screw either. I spun off the 13T I originally put on, tried to crank it down hard (stripping the set screw a bit in the process) and spun it off again, then used blue Loctite on it. It stuck then and was fine.

Sadly, I was overgeared for the local indoor track (that SCT Sidewinder was working beautifully, though) and decided to drop to a 12T. Well, the Loctite and stripped set screw on the 13T were not going to cooperate. At all. Careful drilling (mostly, the truck is fine but there is a hole in my finger), mini vice grips and and hour or so finally removed it.

I spun the 12T off twice as well, had to go the Loctite route again (WTF?). Moral of the story is, use Loctite on the pinion the first time around, give it time to set, and don't strip the set screw. I have some better tools on order, too.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I go to the LHS this week. I find myself trying to think of things in the drivetrain I need to go ahead and buy spares for/upgrade. I just know that this new motor is going to turn this truck into a weapon of mass destruction.

Does this look right for gear mesh? I can sort of wiggle the spur gear a little bit. Personally I think it may be a tad loose. How tight is too tight?

So I have decided against the SCTE as racing and going to the track is going to take up way too much time. So I decided to instead expand my scale crawler so I purchased the Axial Dingo Kit. So far looking to add the Tekin FX-R/35T Motor Combo. Looking at adding the Airtronic MX-3X or the Futaba 3PM-X. Servo I am not sure on yet but it will likely be a Hitec. I should have the Dingo kit Friday. I will start with the mods on the Honcho too. I just ordered the Beadlock wheels and Pit Bull tires for it. I don't like the glued tires/wheel combo that came stock.

It's got a few upgraded parts and has a shorter wheelbase. And I get to put whatever I want in there. For now I am going to keep the Honcho stock besides the wheels and tires so that my bro and dad can use it. So it's really an extra for people who want to go trailing. I sold a bunch of stuff on CL so this RC spending spree is in a way free cause it does not cut into my normal budget at all. I want something that I can build and then add too. I will eventually change out the Honcho electronics as well but that will not be anytime soon.

Good deal. Wished they would make a rolling chassis honcho that was put together expect electronics.
