Need a Battery Recommendation

Went to start my '07 Taco 2.7 liter last night and the battery barely turned it over. I hadn't driven the truck in several days and it had been sitting in my unheated, attached garage (40+°F) the entire time. There are currently 82K miles on the clock and it is the original, stock Toyota battery. What do you guys recommend to replace the stocker that has at least as much CCA and capacity? Are the Optimas all they're cracked up to be, or would I be wise to just buy another OE unit from my dealer?

My son works in a tire/battery shop and he told me more people return Optima batteries than all other brands combined.
If you get one that works they work great, but many fail quickly. I have had great luck with either the Kirkland (Costco) or Everlast (Wal Mart) batteries.

The best batteries out there are the Sears AGM's. Very expensive but worth every penny. I use them on both of my boats.

All you're going to get is opinions based on what everyone is using in their own truck. Good batteries are good batteries. Just get a Duralast, Optimum, Odyssey, etc and you'll be just fine.

Stick with the stocker or Costco one. Unless you are going to be doing lights, winch, high power stereo amps or anything that uses a lot of power.

I have a Optima Yellow top. I parked my truck for a couple of months without starting it. When I finally went to start it, it started just fine. But I was bored so I thought I would charge the battery. It would not take a charge. My charger kept stating (bad cell) and the Charger would shut down. I went back to Auto Zone and they gave me a new battery. I am starting to have doubts about Optima battery's.

 

Just bought a Duralast Gold- The best value for a 3yr unconditional/8yr warranty battery I found. Paid 89.99. I believe made by Johnson batteries, one of the three top manufactures who makes many of the "best brands" out there...

 

I have heard good things about the Duralast Gold. I put one in my old Mazda Protege. It's been working for years now. But I can't remember why but I had a problem finding a battery for my truck. I had bought one at NAPA and had to return it because it would not fit under the metal bracket, even though NAPA said it was the recommended battery. So somehow I ended up with the Optima yellow top.

 

What is the best battery to go with if you do have accesories such as lights and compressors?

 

My experience:

Optima Red Top: I had one that lasted nine years with no issues. I killed it with a couple of deep cycles. Spent a lot of time offroading, too.

Interstate: I had a 2yo one in my Mitsu when I got the truck eight years ago. I pulled it and stored it on a shelf for eight years (moved the Optima in there from another vehicle). Recently put it back in and it started right up, been working perfectly ever since (two months and counting). So that would be an Interstate that is 12 years old, 8 of which were in storage, and is working fine.

Interstate is known to be the best traditional LA battery manufacturer around. My experience supports this.

 

Sears Die Hard Platinum. Absorbed glass mat technology, in a bunch of sheets stacked into a square/rectangular prism, instead of 6 rolled tubes, so it uses space more efficiently than Optima Yellow top, but is the same AGM technology.

 

Ask any mechanic about batteries. This is what s/he'll say. And s/he'll be right.
