That mesh is way loose. You should just barely be able to rock your spur, against the pinion.

I've NEVER used lock tight, and never will. I'm not sure why your having problems. What brand pinions you running? I always had the best luck out of the old Losi steel pinions, fuck a bunch of aluminum pinions. I'm gonna guess the reason your striping sets is cause of shitty tools, again just a guess. Are the sets 1/16 or .50? There may be a bunch of cheap Chinese crap out there now. I bought a shit load of a few different sized pinions years ago, and haven't bought any since.

    Yeah.
Yep, try moving it in to where it touches, then back off just a tiny bit to where you can rock the spur back and forth. Then check all the way around the spur in case it is slightly oval.

Not sure of the pinion brand, whatever the LHS is selling, but they are steel and appear to be of decent quality. I have just been using my metric hex wrenches, it didn't occur to me that the set screw may be SAE. I've got some good hexes in larger sizes, but the only thing I have that small is a Home Depot Husky set (and whatever came in the truck kit). I agree, blame it on crappy Chinese tools! Better ones are on their way.

Prolly the best out there, well at least they used to be (I'm not saying they aren't, still), I've not really even looked at any tools in years.

Duly noted. That kind what I was thinking. I guess I didn't force it together hard enough with the paper

I bought almost a full set of metric and SAE wrenches along with a small tool bag, and they are incredible. Almost too nice - I'm afraid to get them dirty!

Forgot to mention that I ran my SCX10 for the first time this morning with my Gens Ace 5000mah 2S 40C LiPo...holy shit. I drove it for over an hour and the battery didn't seem to get close to the LVC.

Not quite sure what I'm going to do to drain it just yet - I guess I'll have to throw it in my Blitz tonight and see what that bad boy can do! :D

Just recharge it. Batteries that are new "seem" to last longer (life, not runtime) if there broken in a bit. Ran, but not all the way down for the first few cycles. I try not to ever let mine get to the LVS, I have, of course, but I don't make a habit of it. Again supposed to extend the life of the pack, most of the time, I don't even charge at 1c, I understand that's kinda the norm, with 2c and even 3c possible on newer cells. I also like to let my cells rest overnight before recharging, sometimes this just is not an option, but at least let them cool to the touch. If you've got s few packs that are the same, number them, so you can keep track. Bottom line, I baby my packs, and they have taken care of me, and they're almost two years old, with countless cycles, and all numbers still look acceptable.

This feels about twice as tight as it was before. I can just barely rock the spur gear back and forth. But, when I try to turn the tires with my hands it kind of "chunks"? I think it's just where the magnets in this motor are so much stronger than the one before. I'm probably gonna have to adjust my slipper a bit, too.

From here that looks pretty good, roll it to a few different spots on the spur and check, make sure it's good and tight, motor mounts and pinion set, and yes the clunking is prolly your motor.

Yea, I've already rolled it around the room making motor sounds. whhhuurrrrr whhhuurrrrrr :anonymous:

From what I can tell, the tranny is the same as a T4 (I think). Are these known to break? Do I need to upgrade the gears? I'm just tired breaking shit.

They are pretty tough, I'm not gonna say bomb proof. Adjust you slipper so it slips just a bit with a full throttle start, and this will provide some "give" to the drivetrain, especially when landing from a jump. Think about it, your trucks in the air, tires spinning wildly, then it slams into the ground, that's a lot of force being transferred to the gear set, with the clutch (slipper) set properly this will soften up those forces and not only save gears, but keep them from wearing as quickly as well. Factory gears are fine. Does your model have a ball diff, or gear diff?

How did part of my post end up in your quote, I must have put it there.

    Good points.

The numbering idea is a good one, and something I did as soon as I took them out of the box.

My Thunder AC680 has the discharge function, but that just scares me with LiPos for some reason.

I will just run it down some more tonight.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

You store lipos with some charge in them anyways, if it's gonna be awhile before using, your charger prolly has a storage charge as well.

Would anybody maybe be interested in a Savage X with NUMEROUS upgrades? Thinking about selling it. LRP .28 motor, 3 speed trans, spool in rear, upper/lower aluminum a arms, aluminum bumpers, aluminum wheels, upgraded exhaust, custom roll cage etc etc. I'm sure im forgetting something. Motor was broken in and started tuning a little but needs final tuning. Haven't ran in prob 6 months. After-run oil used when stored and turned over as well. Let me know. I'm located in SE PA.
