Call any pro shop and they should tell you to do your exhaust first before intake(air ram). Always remember what goes in must come out. Pointless to do air ram before exhaust. I did my exhaust first and a month later put on my k&n filter. Noticed a big difference each time modifications were done. :mudding:

seems like it would be straight forward...i put in the magnaflow cat back with a socket set and an extra set of hands to help maneuver the pipes around the axle... the wild card is how the extra exit pipe is connected...looks like you'd have drill for a mounting point, unless it utilized some extra hole that is under the truck

A small handful of select mods.
I got a custom install moving the stupid driver's side pipe behind the T case instead of under it, with a 40 series muffler and a single dump after the axle (to keep from crushing it offroad) all installed for $300.00 out the door at BDM Performance Exhaust.

A bolt on dual outlet (single in) for $380.00? Not really worth it in my opinion.

I'm thinking of throwing in a flowmaster 50 series in mine, anyone know what that sounds like, any clips??? And also does anyone know what size the exhaust is, I can do all the welding in myself, pretty simple just hack the old one out and throw the new one in with a little extra pipe!

Only changes if you buy a snorkel, regular intake is setup like CAI too, plenty of guys running CAI's on here offroad w no problems of water.... Oh and I'd go exhaust w/ a drop in.... or just do CAI & Exhaust, you'll find that $$$ somewhere

I just got done putting a flowmaster super 44 in. I hacked out the stock muffler and ran around with just that for a day or 2. It sounded terrible. Then my flowy came in and i just marked on the stock pipe and the muffler so i knew which way it had to be welded. Then took the pipe off after the cats (2 bolts) lined up my marks, welded her in, then used a hanger that was convientely located and welded that sucker right to the pipe. Sounds good and only cost $80 bucks and a little time. About 45 minutes to an hour of actual work. A little drinking took up some more time. If you can find anyone local can weld its pretty easy. Any kid who took metal shop can do it no problem!

If you are doing either for performance, I think it's a waste of money. The hp gained is miniscule vs the price you pay, imo of course.

Does the install for the cat back involve welding? Everything I have read makes it seem that you do not need to??

How loud is this when you are just curising on the highway or around town, I have been looking at this system but my biggest concern is that it would be loud even when the RPMs are under 3k, idealy I am looking for a performance exhaust that is loud when I give it lots of gas and quiet when I am just driving normally. Not sure if that is possible.

Has this been documented by dyno tests before and after ? When the piston goes down on the intake stroke it pulls in a certin amount of air. When it comes up on the exhaust it pushes out a certin amount of air. Unless you are in a high rpm range will ther be any benifits to any of these changes? Other than sound ( noise to some ). If you can gain HP and milage by throwing money at it, throw more.

Yes. Many times. More in more out.

Although a short dyno pull from 3400 to 6200, there is a dyno posted in the intake manifold spacer thread, that was done this Saturday. Automatic 4Runner with 1gr engine. Doug Thorley Long Tube headers, TRD gen 1 intake, exhaust cam gears, NST (www.nonstoptuning.com) intake manifold spacer. His 4Runner made 231whp and 291 wtq. Proven. Runs a 14.3 in his 4500 pound heavy weight as well.

What were the results below 3400. For some highly modified engines it could be a loss. What are the results for an engine with an air cleaner and a muffler change? More in, more out ? How munch more?

Can't get lower starting point on an auto. Otherwise it shifts mid pull.

You want to see the results, go here: www.xr-underground.com then start a search for dyno results.

    You will find a lot.

You refer to an engine with manifold, cam, and headers and rev to 3400 to 6200. That will get you gains at those rpms due to a scavenging effect. What does that have to do with a daily driver with a air cleaner and a muffler change?
