Ya if i keep the revs a little higher it doesnt do it and i only have 1000 miles on it so i would hope it isnt a spun bearing. thanks for the insight.

4th gear is direct (1:1) meaning it is locked straight through so the trans will not make noise in 4th my guess is a slight rear end whine. You are more likely to hear it in 4th because nothing else in the trans is doing any thing. I don't think I would worry about it turn the radio up a bit.

haha thanks, i know that all types of gearboxes make a little noise(4x4 ranger is awful) but if it is the rear end is that normal or should i change fluid or anything?

As new as it is it might be a good ideal to let the dealer have a look if nothing else it establishes a time line in case you do end up with a problem in the future it's probably nothing but a good part of what you paid for the truck covers warranty so you might as well use it.

I've never heard a manual tranny not whine in a gear until I got my taco.

The 2.7L I test drove before my current truck whined a little. Both my previous Hondas whined pretty good in 4th.

Easier to hear when you're sitting next to the tranny instead of behind it like in a car, although it seems to be quieter in the Toyotas because they use 75w90 instead of Honda MTF (I don't know if it's thick enough to qualify for 70w80, the new formulation is ATF thin). The heavy gear oil really sucks up some vibration.

I'd ask the dealer to test drive a couple 5 spd 2.7s myself to verify if it's something common to all the R155 trannies.

It's possible the gears are whining when the countershaft is unloaded in 4th gear and any tolerances normally taken up by engine torque are loose again.
