Keep your shit dry/more secure. Supposedly a little better fuel economy. I've never tested that theory. I only have mine on in the winter so I don't have to shovel my bed out when it snows and when I need to carry a lot of stuff. Other than that I keep mine off.

    :p

the cover will keep things dry and keep people from using the bed of your truck as a mobile garbage can.

I had a Extang Trifecta soft top before I went to a camper shell. It was perfect.
Gas milage I didn't ever compute, but the pure fact that it kept the bed clean in dust and rain storms was worth the price alone.

Tonneau + lock for your tailgate = large secure storage area. Sure, it's not exactly Fort Knox but it lets us carry stuff in the bed without worrying if we stop somewhere.

Yeah...It's a deterrant. I've got a soft cover with a tailgate lock. Keeps folks from throwing stuff into the bed at random and from looking thru my bed box. It's not hard to get into- but it's harder than an open bed.

    Welcome to the board!!

It depends on the truck... Just because Mythbusters tested the theory on one pick-up doesn't mean it's the same result for all. A tonneau helped my mileage on my old Ranger and slightly helped the Tacoma. I wouldn't buy one solely for fuel economy.

I put on an Extang Trifecta last year along with a Pop-N-Lock tailgate lock. I haven't noticed any difference in mpg, but it does provide a semi-secure place for your stuff.
Most of all, it looks good.

    Keep stuff dry.
Keep stuff out of plain view.

I don't have a lock but try not leave valuable items back there.

Trust in God but lock your doors.

I use it to keep stuff out of sight and to keep it out of the weather. I have a bed extender, which folds over inside the bed, so it creates a trunk where I can put stuff in the back by opening the tail gate but it can not slide forward while I drive. Very handy. I am not sure about the mpg benefit. I have heard that it helps, but have never checked it.

Cover removed to show "trunk" area.
