WaveSpin Reels

Has anyone tried one of the WaveSpin reels? Supposed to "eliminate" knots from tangles and loops. My Abu Garcia is starting to get a little rough so I'm starting the look for a new reel and was wantin to reviews if any of you have them.

wanna know how to eliminate loops on a spinning reel. 2 simple things.

1. always make sure you have tension when reeling.

2. after casting, flip the bail, and pull a small bit of line off the reel against the drag, then retrieve.

as for recommendations.

I have become a huge fan of the new penn battle. things are solid. took last summer like a champ getting drag ripped off them by sharks all summer. handled cobia and such.

Great priced saltwater reel, even if your not saltwater fishing.

I have also been using penn prions for probably 6 or 7 years now. Only had them rebuilt once.

abu garcias are good, but ive only used their ambasaduers

i also like shimano.

 

I know this...but this supposedly eliminates even the need to do that. I just wanna know if they actually work. My problem is line twist. We use a LOT of spinners, so the line gets twisted up sometimes.

 

never heard of it . sounds fishy to me and i have a hard time beleiving it.

 

All I use this for is trout. I like Abu Garcia, but the last 2 I've had haven't seemed to stand up to the beatings I've been giving them. That's why I'm looking to switch this round. I have one that's probably 5 or 6 years old and the only thing wrong with it is the paint coming off from bein in the bed of the truck. The current one has lasted a year and you can tell it's goin downhill already. Not sure what the deal is.

 

That's kinda the way I am. My buddies grandpa got one a few months ago, but he's not in the best health and I don't think he's really gotten to use it, so I don't know anyone with any first hand knowledge of them.

 

I know but what im trying to say is this reels are fucking awesome and dont break the bank ahaha.

they make anything from a 2000 model to like an 8000, so they have small reels.

 

how heavy are the spinners your throwing?

 

They're only 1/8 oz. (Keep in mind...ultra light gear with 6 lb test for trout). I used to use Panther Martins, but they twisted it up BAD. I've started using mostly Blue Fox now, and that has cut down on the line twist a lot.

but yeah seems like ur limited to spin cast.

 

I do fly fish

We do a lot of wading. I take the fly rod and the spinnin rod with me all the time and use both.

Caught this one on the spinning rod, but it shows how I keep my fly rod with me. Wish I would have caught this one on the fly (It's only a 5 wt, it woulda been a lot of fun, especially in the current I was in)

 

dahhh 5wt woulda handled him fine, thats what my pops uses, used that damn thing all over the place. colorado, montana, wyoming, florida,...

Ive got a 4 wt. and 6 wt. hes got a 3/4 wt. and a 5 wt. and an 8 wt for redfishing,

 

Ive been lurking around for a while and thought I would weigh in on this. I have been using the wavespin reels since they first came out in 2007. Like anything new they had a few quirks to them when they first came out. I do have to say that the latest ones are outstanding. They are not a gimmick and they do preform as they state.

The main reason that they work so well is that when you do get a loop, it can not come off the reel due to the grooves on the spool. The groove will hold onto the loop until it gets thrown off. It is very impressive.

This reel is very inexpensive for a reel that has a two year unconditional warranty. I still have and use reels that I have had since 2007. Everything on the wavespin is top notch, even the drag.

Awesome. Thanks. That's what I've been looking for...first hand experience. I started to just buy one the other day for the heck of it since they're relatively inexpensive, but backed off. Has it "Eliminated" your knots or has it reduced them? I don't see it being able to completely eliminate them.

 

If you use only mono or braid it has eliminated them completeley. With Flurocarbon it has cut them back by 95%. Once in a while you will get what I call a wind knot. Not sure why I call it that but its when you get to the loop and it comes off the spool faster than the line can go through the first eye and it wraps around it. But I pretty much figured out its from trying to throw to hard.

Like you said it is pretty inexpensive and well worth the money. Let me know if you get one and what you think about it.

I own 2 of them. They work perfectly as advertised.

 

I got one and have been able to use it 8-10 times already. Love it so far. casts smooth, reels smooth, and the drag is incredibly smooth. Haven't had any problems with knots yet
