Just south east of Valley of the Moon in Jacumba is a gnarly jeep trail. Does anybody know the name of it? It's the part in red. Here is a Google Map.

I took it in my stock 4x4 Tacoma (w/ sliders) and it was quite the adventure. $hit bricks in a few places... I had to spend 20 minutes rebuilding the trail in one part stacking rocks so I could make it out. Using extremely careful wheel placement, and spot checking many times I made it out no serious damage just lots of new pin striping and dents in the factory skids. :)

I would not recommend that trail without some additional armor.

My guess is Jeeps roll through with 35" tires. Lots of dirtbike tracks too. Border patrolman I. HERNANDEZ called it an ATV trail.

I was too concerned with getting out than taking pictures of the trail. I did manage to capture this image where I had to stack some rocks. The ledge was about knee high (Pictures can't do the depth justice).

The previous day I day hiked into Valley of the Moon and captured these images of the monzonite boulders.

Awesome pics Crom, yeah , finally made it out there last year & it would be a little tough getting thru there without dinging something especially in a stock truck, trails are short but deceptive, beautiful scenery.....

Been to that place 10 times. Love it! It's my favorite for SD county. I know the exact spot you had trouble; much easier in a wrangler than any vehicle with a longer bed. Friends, do not do this trip alone!

Ooooh, I've never been down that side of the trail...I always go east toward Elliot mine to go climbing. Awesome place, and there's rarely anyone else out there.
If you guys do another run out there I'd love to tag along, but I won't be back down until mid December...

I went during the summer and started to venture off into that jeep trail but backed out once it started getting nasty (no sliders/stock truck). Been waiting to go back again to explore some more with my enduro bike.
