bruddas...no need remove charcoal filter esp on new V6. Just drop in aFe Dry airfilter, keep tires properly inflated & drive like you own it not stole it. You get 21mpg. Pretty good to me from a V6 Tacoma :)

Make sure you're going forward after this mod, going backwards y'll likely unintentionally slam into something since you're not used to it.
    Take it slow. ;)

To All Tacoma Charcoal air filter removal questioners: I removed mine 2 weeks ago. I keep good records on fuel consumption. I see no realistic change in fuel consumption since removal. I drive a route and change my driving habits very little. It was easy and worth a try, but do not expect anything special. Good luck, DMHart

What kind of mileage do you expect from a 4.0 v6 and a truck that goes 4100lb Dbl cab 4x4. My job allows me to drive home some of their full size trucks once in a while and the 6.0 litre chevy you can watch the gauge move towards empty when your driving. The mileage is about 9-12 at best.

I did this and felt a little more power but nothing incredible. Waiting to fill up to see what kind of mileage i'm getting. hoping that will go up a little bit. Great write up though. Was very easy with this thread.

I placed an AFE intake and a throttle body spacer into my 05 V6 tacoma and was wondering if that removed the secondary filter?!?

I'm sure this question was already answered but browsing through the 20 some pages i did not finder it.

If it is still there that would mean the filter is on the engine side of the throttle body and not toward the filter side.

Knuckle head me could not distinguish were the filter was in the pictures at the beginning of the thread and i could not see the 2nd filter on the original air filter or air tubing i took out

    Thanks

    ^

If you are replacing your stock air filter it is on the top side of the hood over your filter.

i went to remove my secondary filter today and noticed that PO has installed a K& N. i do know the k & n allows more air flow, so my question is will it allow too many particles through ??? if so i guess i need to leave secondary filter in right?

Went to attempt the air filter removal a minute ago but chickened out visioning the one thing that went wrong with the truck would be because I removed it and messed the truck up. What would be things that could go wrong in doing this and what would be the chance of something going wrong?

Nothing can go wrong, your chance is zero.

All it does is prevent gasoline vapors from exiting through the intake.

But it will not improve your mpg if that's what you are hoping for.

Not really looking for mpgs, just thought I'd give it a try. Any reason the dealer might look at it during service or something?

Also I'm just trying to get the mesh filter out is all? I could just take a screw driver and a knife to pry the thing out?
