Yeah that's the only down side I've found so far is the distance. Midland has better schools, a nicer downtown, it's booming, more oil companies, lots more young people, and it has a Freebirds instead of a Chipotle.
It was my choice, the oppourtunity to work on what I'll be doing was too good to pass up. We are headed up there to look at houses next weekend.

Like there aren't in Tyler? Have you guys been to Tyler? You're making it seem like some sort of a paradise

From everything I've seen in pictures, and the one time I drove thoruhg midland, it is much nicer than Tyler. Tyler is a has-been city. Midland is hot now .

I was hoping someone would agree that that's a pretty big deal there.

Yep, but mainly its a better opportunity for me. The more different basins I work, the more chance I have to move up. Plus it's oil out there, which is hot right now. Natural gas prices are awful, and that's what we mainly have over here.

    Downtown Tyler:

I dont see how any of the other points, on schools and chipotle, are even arguable.

Yeah it's going to be an adventure. I figure why stay in a certain place when there is more demand for me somewhere else? would be a bad carreer move to say no. I think.

    8 hours from Tyler.
Never been to WF. Downtown Tyler is just a pretty depressing place. Both of the buildings pictured above have over 70% of their office space vacant.

you should see WF downtown. its a ghost town. We put together a zombie crawl 2 years ago and we didnt even have to block off any streets because there wasnt even any traffic to worry about! Most of the buildings are 100% vacant or so run down no one would be able to inhabit them. the ones that are usable are probably about the same at around 70%-80% vacant. Its sad. This use to be a big time oil town.

the only thing that keeps this town alive is Sheppard air force base.

Ha, 5 hours will be a short drive now, relatively speaking. Going to take some getting used to.

Speaking of that side of the world and geology. I have a great uncle who lives in Lubbock who's a retired geologist.
