Finding the right price on a 2007 Tacoma

I've gone to three dealers here in the Garden State.

The first one was Crystal Automall on Rt. 22. The only thing I got out of the whole experience was a test drive, otherwise, incompetent salesmen not knowing what they are selling was all I got.

The second one was Muller Toyota in Clinton, NJ. It was the only place that gave me a price. So here's the thing, I don't know if the price is a good deal. It's for an 07 Tacoma with TRD Off Road package and Tow. 6 disk CD (but no JBL, which btw is really hard to find). Automatic. Retail of course is right around $30k, he said he would bring it down to $28,xxx and offered $6k for my BMW. So, am I getting a deal or is this dude just blowing smoke? Salesman said that no matter what the price is, I will have to pay an extra 0.4% because of a gas guzzler tax. That doesn't make sense, it does better gas mileage than most other pickups.

Not familiar with Tax laws in Jersey, but you should check other dealerships. Also, check http://autos.yahoo.com or http://edmunds.comto get an accurate quote on what the "cost to the dealer" is.

$2K off the retail is nothing. If it was his first offer, then he can go lower. $3K to $4K is more like it. Remeber, they are only trying to get money out of you. They are not there to help you. If you can get him down to $26K you are doing good.

I got $3K taken off the price of my Tacoma, and I still gave them money. Watch out for screwy deals on the backside as well (hidden fees, finance insurance, throw in items that you don't want, etc...).

Also, I would check Kelley Blue Book's website to see how much your BMW is really worth. 328's are known to hold their value pretty well. I would think you are looking at $8K or $9K for your trade.

All of this advice comes with a price tag of free, so it is worth what you paid for. Do some research on these sites. It should help.

also checkout carsdirect.com. I found them to be very close to the deal my dealer gave me. I got my 07 double cab V-6 PreRunner SR5 with towing package, tinted windows and all weather matts for $23,600 +taxes. This price is about $300 under invoice. Toyota was also having 0.0% financiing for 24 mos, 1.9% for 36 mos, 2.9% for 48 and 3.9% for 60 mos. I opted for the 2.9%. Where they tried HARD to get me was with the optional bumper to bumper warrany coverage that came to several thousand dollars. It took about 15 minumtes for them to finally understand NO, I DON'T WANT IT!. This is where they make thir money

That is exactly the kind of thing you want to avoid. They told me that it was required. I found out afterwards that it isn't required. They are going to be hearing from me today. Otherwise, I got a great deal on my truck.

I've been checking out online sites and what not for pricing, though, the dealer doesn't want to accept any information from those sites. They tell me the usual BS about how I'm reading the wrong price and I have to look at the options and blablabla.... One mofo even told me that he'll specifically point out the MSRP to me and describe to me in detail the pricing. Yea, like I'll EVER pay MSRP!

So, here is the information, reguarding pricing, that I've been able to compile:

2007 Tacoma - Basic Options
Retail/Invoice: $25,515/$23,126
TRD Off Road: $3,045/$2,445
Tow: $650/$520
JBL: $560/$420

Price at retail: $29,770
Price at invoice: $26,511

So, from what 007Tacoma said, if I'm able to get the dealer down to ~$26k, only then I am getting a deal, otherwise, AMF?

BTW, the dealers near me don't offer any deals on financing. I got a quote from Eloan.com for 6.25% intrest for 60 months.

I have no experience with ELoan, but that sounds like a good deal. I went with my local Credit Union. They tend to give much better rates than banks.

If you think invoice is around $26,500, don't expect a dealer to go below $500 over that. They want to sell it, but they want some money for it too.

I bought my truck back in Dec. Not sure what part of Jersey your from, but here's what I went through. One, almost all Tacoma's are equipped by regions. So that means most of the TRD Off Road's and Sport will be equipped with the same options, so it may be hard to find one with the JBL system. All the dealers here in South/Central Jersey don't carry the JBL option. Second, I checked out three dealers...Cherry Hill Toyota, Tunnersville Toyota, and Lawrence Toyota. Cherry Hill, and Lawrence both had the truck I wanted. A Silver Mica 4x4 Double Cab TRD Off Road. The sticker on the truck was 31,500. I paid 28,250. That was 5 hours of negotiating. Sure it was excrutiating, but Cherry Hill told me to beat it when I offered 28,500, and they weren't joking. They happily let me leave the dealership. I ended up purchasing from Lawrence, I managed to get them to throw in a $79 Hood Deflector...big whoop....Bottom line is the price is going to be dictated by the market. For instance one of the responses from Texas was he got his truck for 26? that might be possible in Texas, but Jersey doesn't have the amount of trucks available on their lots cause Toyota sells the amount of trucks they want here, so they can demand the price they want. I would look at Edmunds and see what the market value in your area of Jersey (TMZ value) is and go from there. If you get it for under 28K consider it a victory, around 28 is fair, and over, your paying dealer price.....I hope this helps.

I got an offer on a TRD Sport Double Cab from James Toyota in Flemington, NJ (I live in Bedminster, btw). It was through thier internet department. Retail came to $30,837, they offered her up at $27,813.

steviestyles is correct. The Toyota dealers in Texas have much more selection, but $27,813 sounds really good. I would go for it!

I would make sure they are quoting you for a 2007. Some of the dealers here are selling their remaining 06's for that price. If it is indeed a 07, the price is good. I'm not sure how you feel about black. It's a nice color, but hard to keep clean and scratch free. I traded in a black Chevy Trailblazer for my Silver Tacoma. I was gald to get out of a black vehicle, after seeing all the scratches, and I babied all my cars.

Most people don't like the JBL system and still upgrade their steroes, so I wouldn't even consider the $450 option. Since the truck has the tube steps that cost $450, I'd do it. I'd also make sure that the dealer is quoting you on the roadd price. Ask them what thier dealer charge is. I was quorted an on the road proce by Turnersville, and then they started adding in documentation fees, dealer fees, and prep bringing the price up almost another $1K. I think they're still offering a $500 rebate for 07 Tacoma's too.

Yeah "Stealer"ships are out to sheist people...I wouldn't put it past them to try and pawn off a new 06 at that price.

 

Go to the fleet manager at your dealership!! Down here in San Diego fleet managers will give you $1000 below invoice and then factory incentives on top of that. I just did that with my Sienna. Got $1200 below invoice and then a $1500 factory rebate off of that. The Tacomas are $1000 below invoice and then an additional $500 for the 2007 factory rebate and an additional $2500 for the 2006 factory rebate. If you anyone is close to San Diego let me know and I will hook you up with my contact.

No. I don't know why they still call it that. They just want a high number of sales and don't care about making thousands on each car. Plus when they sell as many cars as they do they get additional factory incentives and deals.

if you look at my signature you can see everything i have. I paid 26.5k for it. That was after about 14 days of negotiating between dealers. BTW, if you want the offroad and they offer you the sport, don't take it. when you are paying that much for something you better get exactly what you want. As for the black color.... mine is black, and it looks great, but it is hard to keep clean and scratches do show up alot. Black was the only color i was interested in but you do have to baby it and even then you need to expect flaws to show up
