i apologize if this is already mentioned somewhere in this thread. i tried a search but didnt turn up anything. So i just got the overtray from Jconcepts for my slash 4x4. Wondering if anyone on here has tried the Jconcepts overtray and proline undertray combo? I know the proline one has gotten bad reviews cause it just acts like a scoop for gravel but the coverage of the steering servo and the hole where the driveshaft is gets covered by it. Which seems like a great idea. So i was thinking of getting one and cutting it down and have the overtray go over the edge of the chassis and the lip of the undertray. Thoughts? Anyone try it? Obviously you would have to cut some vents in the overtray to get some heat out but figured you could just screen the holes so no stuff gets in there. I know its all water proof and what not but just cuts out a lot of time cleaning out the chassis area and stuff.

^ Hate to break it to you, but overtrays suck. They might be okay with a slow brushed system, but not brushless. They cause major heat issues! Even with vents, your esc will still get hot. Vents don't provide the airflow an esc needs to stay with operating range. If you can, I would send it back and get a outerwear. Much better, IMO. Overtray's are more of a "Hey look what I got" thing as opposed to something that actually benefits the truck.

I've got an overtray for my SC10. It was great with the stock brushed system. Haven't got my brushless ready to go just yet.. My ESC has a built in fan, I'm not gonna be running super-hot batteries, and it's a fairly light truck. After I've run it a bit without the overtray I'm gonna see if I can get away with it being vented. I've even thought about cutting a big hole in the top and putting mesh screen in it's place.

As far as fit and finish, it's great. I'm just going to have to try it out and see what happens.

My guess with a 4x4 slash is you're more than likely gonna run into heat issues unless it's heavily vented and then you've sort of defeated the whole purpose of it.

Now looking back, should've got the outerwear thingy...

Yeah from what I've read some have heat issues, some don't. Most with the heat issues run the 3s lipos which I am not. Most people seem to be okay ruining 2s or lower. I'll just keep an eye on the heat to see how it goes. I was just wondering about the undertray overtray combo. They are cheap enough. I guess I'll just see how it goes.

Is your slash brushless? I think they all come brushless... I don't know. I don't keep up with traxxas much. :anonymous:

You should probably see if you can get your money back out of that overtray and get an outerwear cover. I'm gonna try the mesh thing with mine, though.

yea i got it for only 10 bucks so im just gonna try it out anyway. i just got the truck so im not running the thing screaming fast or hot anyway. so far all the times that ive run the thing nothing has even really been warm let alone hot. Some say it works great with now heat issues some say what you guys are saying. so im just gonna rock it and see what happens. As for the "look at me aspect" not really what i was thinking. You dont see it anyway when its under the body and it will be kept clear. Didnt buy it to be flashy, bought it for the coverage. If it doesnt work out that well then ill go with the outerwear thing. i read up on both of those and i heard good and bad about both. So i went with this one and we will see what happens.

Yea, just make sure to keep temps in check. Invest in an infrared thermometer gun thingy if you haven't already.

on my slash, im thinking about using a 3s lipo. how much run time on track is it safe? to not over heat.

i currently run about 12-15 min on my 2s 5000mah.

I'm not sure, but I think with correct gearing you shouldn't really have any heat issues.

It doesnt have to do with run time. It is more throttle control and gearing.
