Uncomfortable Seats

I bought a used 2005 SR5 access cab with about 125K miles and the seats are very uncomfortable. They don't support my back at all and it seems like the lumbar doesn't do much to help either.

Right now I'm using a back support cushion which helps a little. I'm wondering if the TRD seats are of higher quality and are they interchangable?

 

They should just switch right up

 

TRD Seats are no better. I use a lumbar pad as well. My 85' was the worst, my 90' was bad but better, my 94', no change, my 02', slight improvement, my 06' a little better yet, my 12', as good as its gonna get I guess. I use the pad and it helps, if you got back problems like I do, there is really no good answer.

 

Dang ... you go through a lot of trucks. I think the TRD seats are definitely firmer than the SR5 seats. But if you have a bad back, I don't know if it'll be enough. A lumbar pillow is a lot cheaper though!

 

Bench seats and backaches FTW!!!

 

I absolutely hate the sport seats..After 1/2hr or so, my back starts to hurt. I loved my 96, 60/40 seats..I could drive all day and not be bothered.

 

I have a 2011 PreRunner SR5 and a tweaky, sensitive back. I have 17k miles on the truck in 8 months and the seats are treating my back quite well, even on long (8 hour) rides. They work well for me.

 

I can drive all day with my TRD seats and have no problems. I find the lumbar support to be very good. My back problems actually seem to improve after sitting in the truck for a few hours. I guess we're all different.

 

Anyone know if Tundra or Highlander seats fit?

 

I don't think the Tundra or RAV4 seats are better.

The TRD seats are better than the SR5 seats. If you need even more lumbar support, just get a lumbar pad.

What about swapping to bench seats? Can this be done?

 

I think the bench seats are even worse. You'd have to change the center console to the base reg. cab style, too.

 

Bench seat in my 09 company Tacoma lacks lumbar support. I sometimes use a rolled up towel on longer drives. Definitely not an upgrade, I don't think.

 

My back is tweaked and the TRD seats are treating it pretty good. Went 16 hours with only fuel stops on one trip with no problems. Do wish they had power seats as an option with a memory setting. Seems like it takes forever to find the right position again after my wife or kids drive the truck and move the seat.

 

I love my TRD seats.

 

The bench seat sucks i wouldnt even consider it

 

We have two Tacomas in our garage. A 2012 DCSB TX Pro 4x4 with front bucket seats (adjustments include fore & aft, seat back rake & lumbar) and a 2010 standard cab 4x4 with a bench seat (only fore and aft adjustment). I have back issues (actually broke several years ago and currently 4 herniations). I do okay with the bucket seats, I think they are good not great OTOH the bench seat does not work for me at all. Each person has their own concept of comfort but in general (and I love my truck, it's not my first and won't be my last) Toyota does not provide enough adjustments. The more adjustable the better in my view. I wish Toyota would check out the optional seats in the BMW X6.

 

I finally found some TRD seats locally. Just put them in and to me it's like day and night. Much better.

From this experience it just makes me wonder why Toyota would make such poor quality SR5 seats and to top it off don't offer the TRD seats from the dealer.

 

Keep in mind you bought it with 125,000 miles on the truck, that is a lot of ass time for those seats.

 

Man, the seats in Taco are super comfortable. Maybe it just takes some getting used to? I'm renting a fully loaded Ford Edge right now and the seats in that thing are killing me.
