Fuel to air short?

So after my ocotillo trip. My check engine light came on, and I went to Toyota to get it scanned, and they said its a short in the fuel to air component? Like $400 to replace.. Anyone know what this is?

 

Did they give you a bottle of lube with that diagnostic?

Yeah I thought they meant the MAF.. He said it wasn't.. Air fuel sensor? I am confused

 

I'm gunna go home and clean the shit out of everything..

They might have reset it. Take it to autozone/checkers/ and they can scan it for free, then google that code and see..

 

Maybe a google search will come up with something... If you need a part replaced ... dont buy it from your local stealership... I bet you can get it off of eBay wayy cheaper than $400.

Possibly talking about the air/fuel ratio sensor did they give you a code#

I would start by cleaning your Mass Air Flow sensor and looking at the AFR sensor

If you have to buy the AFR sensor you can get it for half of what the stealership wants and you can change it out yourself

I am not familiar with your vehicle but the sensor should be located near your front catalytic converter

Maybe you just got some dirt in the connector and it shorted, Had something very similiar happen to a component on our airplane the other but it was fuel instead of dirt lol. once it was clean it worked fine. if it pops again maybe replace the O2 sensor?

 

P0031 is heater circut low the ecu is not seeing and amperage to the af sensor heater circut. if you have an ohm meter unplug the sensor and check resistance across the two black wires should be around 13-18ohms if it is out of limits or a really high reading you need a new a/f sensor.

 

The AF sensor is in the exhaust. Its the same as an 02 sensor, just runs of different voltages.

The heater side of the circuit is not the side that reads Air fuel ratios. It is the side that heats up the sensor so it can read more accurately.

This guy has the right idea, I don't know if those are the correct values though.

Just double checked the repair manual online Fractured is right just looked up the spec in the manual 1.8 to 3.4 ohms 13 to 18 is for an O2 sensor thats what I get for qouting values off the top of my
head. If you need help shoot me a pm if you can come down to lake forest maybe we can work it out.

 

Alright, it ended up being 2 cooked fuel to air sensors.. Toyota wanted 350 for one.. but i got two done at a local shop for $500. Just drove it home.. and.. OMFG. you can literarily feel the power and the clean-ness of it.. I was loosing a lot of power because of this. can almost hit the rev line just progressively pushing on the pedal.
Cant wait to see how much of a difference it makes in gas milage
