I thought Petrov was deserving of an F1 seat for the season, glad to see him back.

What's the saying? NASCAR is still the caveman chiseling on a round rock while F1 continues to be the upper echelon of speed and racing.

    Ok, confused.

I just heard the announcers mention that "since the refueling ban..." Forumla One cars don't refuel during the race .. at all? How is that possible? Don't these cars get like 3-4 MPG? I've only watched two races so far, watching the 3rd now and it seems like they are 60-110 laps. How many miles is it around these tracks?

NM just checked Nurburgring is 3.119 miles and the race is 60 laps, so 190ish miles. At 4 MPG that's a 48ish gallon tank. Really? Is my MPG estimate way off? That's a huge tank. Aren't they worried about carrying that much gasoline, seems like a big explosion/burn off potential.

No refueling anymore , they start the race with enough fuel to finish

Sweet video. I hope some of the lower teams start doing better this season.

Yet, F1 had to go to NASCAR and ask them how the fuck they were getting the piston speeds they were getting......

Is the 3-4 MPG estimate accurate? If so it seems dangerous to be carrying around 40+gallons of fuel, especially the stuff they're using. Was the rule change for better racing or were there refuel concerns in the pits, safety wise?

The rule change was to get the races won or lost on the track and not in the pits . The fuel tanks have an internal bladder to contain the fuel in case of an accident .

I think I remember Mr. Hobbs last year saying they have something like 300 lbs of fuel at the start. In F1 they measure the fuel by weight.

The fuel tanks they use are like what is used in military helicopters. Kevlar reinforced with self sealing/puncture resistant.
