lift success stories ?!?

Wanting to lift my new reg cab 2011 , and am getting scared off by other posts , need to hear from some lift wo problems ... ( put a donahoe (icon) lift on a fj I had and worked great)

 

OP, thats cause you dont hear about all the "good" experiences, only the bad.

 

i just lifted mine. i put OME 886's with dakars in the rear. i used a diff drop kit and a CB drop kit. i also put 285/75/16's on it. that was 3 weeks ago. so far i have no vibes at any speed. i had some rubbing but the shop that installed the lift did a cab mount chop for me. so thats taken care of. my CV angles are alittle steep, but im hoping once i get my bumper put on it will help with that. so in a nut shell im very happy with the lift and so far no problems! check out pics in my sig

 

^^^ very true... you should just take the negative as a learning opportunity so when you have problems you will know what to expect and how to fix it. I think the majority of people here have had some type of problem after lifting their truck but are still happy they made the choice.

 

Depends on lift and such 5100's seem good and heard lots good about toyotec

Plus Armor, bumpers, ect.... I wheel her hard and I have had zero problems with anything suspension related. Actually zero problems with anything with the truck.

 

I bought the procomp 3 inch lift. It came with front strut/coil spring, sway bar relocate brackets, the "toyota lean" shim, rear ad-a-leafs with everything needed to re-pack your leafs, and rear shocks.
Install took me and abuddy about 6hrs being slow and precise. The actual amount of lift I got was 4 inches! Measured and double checked. Lol. Hasn't settled that much either, it has about 4k miles on it.
The ride is imo a little better than stock. The rear is a tad stiffer but.. its a truck. Handles great on and off road (at least moderate off road) haven't done much crazy stuff.
Abs and vsc liked to kick on a lot in inappropriate times. A better alignment and a re calibrated zero point censor fixed that.
No complaints at all after that. And at ~$500 you get a lot for the price. Hope this helps a little.

I lifted a 05 taco with 80K on the dial, and the problems i have had so far are vibrations.
Here is my experience in a nut shell.
First vibrations were the carrier bearing. Lowering it solved allot of issue with torque related vibrations. Here recently about 6K after lift, I lost both front wheel bearings. That was a $1400 repair bill. This can be attributed to both the high milage, and the added leverage of larger wheels and tires. Is the vibrations gone, No, i am still on a quest to find the little bastard. I dropped the front Diff to make sure there was no issues with the CV joints, but that did nothing. For the hell of it, i had the all U-joints replaced, nope not it either, so i decided to replace the carrier bearing hoping it was shot, nope not it either. Tires were wearing uneven, so i took it in and had it aligned, it was barley out, had tires rotated while it was there. Still not it. Vibration i still have is really harmonic, it increases in frequency from 30-80mph.
Now the million dollar question, would i do it again?
Hell Yes, the truck looks and performs fantastic on and off road. Yours being a 2011, i would do it in a second, because you have no wear and tear on the truck.

I will update you to what my issue is, i am going to adjust the Coil overs to see if i can get that harmonic vibe under control. After that, i may have look into binding in the front diff, or transfer case issue and pinion angles.

Lifted mine with the Toytec Ultimate Kit. As of right now, only issue I have is the common shudder when accelerating from a standstill. I did not install the diff drop and my CV's look surprisingly good (the angles, that is). My lift is about 3'' back, about 2.5'' in the front btw.

 

The torque related shutter you are feeling is from your carrier bearing. Drop it and it will fully disappear, guaranteed.

 

Really? I bought the CB drop that Toytec sells and installed on the truck the same time when I lifted it. Tried removing it too, but the shudder was the same

 

I lifted my truck 1/2" by going from 245s to 265s...no issues.

You need about an Inch to get rid of it, you can just buy some steel like i did, and lower it a 1/4 inch at a time. I took mine off like five times before i got it just right. Every truck is different. Some lucky guys lifted and never had a problem, either that or they live on a really rough gravel road and can't tell the difference!!!

 

Interesting. I'll try lowering it a bit more and hopefully that gets rid of the problem.

 

TX Baja will be sporting a 2" lift. Gives you an idea of what Toyota feels comfortable with using stock upper control arms.

 

Watch out what you read. I bought my lift (AAL on the rear and Bilstein 5100's) from someone on here who had them on a double cab and had no problems. They only sold them cause they upgraded to a better lift. I put it on my regular cab and had all kinds of vibes and noises. Only thing I can chalk it up to is the short driveline. With that said, I've seen a few lifted regular cabs on here who claim they don't have problems.
