Transmission Service

My Tacoma has 125,000 miles on it and I last serviced the transmission around 80,000 miles. The transmission isnt having any issues, but I know the fluid should be changed. I've heard horror stories about changing the fluid on higher mileage transmissions. Do you think it's safe to have it serviced???

 

I have heard that on high milage toyota trannys you want to drain and refill dont flush it.
Ive had more them one mechanic tell me that if you get it flushed you have a chance of it flushing all the small metal pieces back into the tranny which is not good.
I always just drained and filled mine probably twice a year and never had any problems until one day it started grinding and then it locked up and i had to get it rebuilt lol. So idk all i do know is it blows having to pay the rebuild bill!

Flushes are just like a more effective drain and fill.

The issue is when someone doesn't have the tranny serviced until it reaches a high mileage. Where you had yours serviced at 80,000 and just have 40,000 on the last service, you should be fine with a flush

 

Don't forget your rear diff too. Don't flush the tranny... just drain refill. $30 diy
