Is it really that bad where you live that you need carry guns into a Lowes store?

So, it sounds like he's been hobbled, once before. If he'd come any closer I'm sure you would have taken care of it; with my blessing. Good for you being cool. It's getting really crazy out there.[IMG]

do you get to pick the time/place when SHTF for you? actually the OP's situation here is evidence that strange/bizarre things do happen in "seemingly" "nice" places... this situation could've been just a mentally disturbed person, drugged up person, or someone w/ mal intent... bad things can and do happen in the places you'd least expect.. google "luby's cafeteria texas"... if you were to become a cornered cat, you'd probably wish you'd been proactive about self defense about the time you drop a load in your pants.. ;)

Exactly. OP - good for you on being prepared but restraining your action to what was appropriate.

I carry everywhere it's legal and continually push for legislation to open up new areas. There is no way to predict if, when and where someone might go nutso. I live in a small town but that doesn't mean there are no dangerous folks around... just fewer regular people to notice/stop them if they flake out.

If I make it through my entire life and never have to touch my gun except at the range and when cleaning, I'll consider myself lucky and be very happy.

I watched a lady get thrown down and robbed in a Wal-Mart parking lot in the middle of the day with plenty of people around. Ask her if she would have liked having a weapon to protect herself. There is little to no violent crime noted around here, yet I actually witnessed it happen. I hope that all of you that are so against protecting yourselves get physically robbed. Thats right I actually wouldn't mind that happening, not wanting any serious physical harm to occur though. Then we'll see how your perspective changes.
But I'm sure your all big macho guys that will show them!
Then add to the equation a GF/Wife and a child. Just know that one mistake on your part means you won't know what happens to lady and child.

If someone sneaks up on you at Lowes from behind what ya gonna do?

Say please oh please dont hurt me? please oh please dont rob me? please oh please dont take my girl and rape her?
Please please please pretty please mister??

If someone breaks into your home, or tries to snatch you out of your car, without some means of defence you very well could be shit out of luck

If they come in your house

You gonna hide under the bed?
    In the closet?
Call the cops? good luck with that when the average time it takes for them to get there is 14 mins
Are you gonna run out the back door before getting bashed in the head?

It is totally amazing at the mindset of people that are afraid of guns:rolleyes:

All it takes is a 3day class to educate one`s self on the basics of firearms safety

Oh and this guy being within arms reach or even quite a bit farther would have been able to grab either person before they were able to draw their weapons.
I used to train police officers in the Martial Arts and one thing we noted to every officer is that their gun is of no use if it cannot be drawn before the attacker makes physical contact. From around 8' or farther, if I recall correctly an attacker would be able to stab or hit an officer before most could draw and accurately/safely fire their weapon. Obviously as a civilian you aren't subject to the same limits as an officer.

Whoa... I support the OP's actions and I think I understand your sentiment, but really?!??!

I couldn't agree with you more, but the distance could be quite a bit farther considering most folks aren't quick-draw artists.

I live in San Antonio and I carry everywhere, and have no problem using force when I feel threatened. I am especially wary in parking lots and gas stations--can't tell you how many times I've been approached by some nut-bag at a damn fuel stop.

I also avoid crowds. And when I'm walking with my family, even in a mall, I walk behind them several feet so I can get a comprehensive picture of what all is happening in front of them and still guard their rear. Trust no one you don't know.

    ^^^^^^

    That's funny!

Although you just might be surprised how many folks do the exact same thing. Once you're aware of them it's pretty easy to pick them out. There's a lot of them in any large gathering. Now if only all of those people would go to the range frequently enough to be good with their chosen carry piece.

I've lived in the more dangerous areas of Jacksonville, I've had someone attempt to break into my house via my bedroom window, and I've had someone attempt to rob me before. I carry atleast a knife or two on my person at all times and know how to use them, but I've never pulled a weapon on anyone.

Someone doing what the OP described definitely would have caught my attention, and I probably would have kept an eye out for the guy while going back to my vehicle.
