You assumed wrong... afraid of guns just because I asked if it was really that bad where the op lives where he feels the need to pack a weapon into a Lowes store? I have guns, got a permit, and have taken classes in firearm's safety. I just don't feel the need where i live to have to pack every where i go...that's all.

edit: just to let you know i don't have anyone counting on me for protection (single and don't have kids.) If things were different I'd carry more often for sure.

Thanks for your service Caleb. Truly. But someday you'll have a wife, and then your own children. Things change... the bond is unlike anything else you have experienced yet. I wasn't implying I was a bad-ass, but I've been around the block a few times. I was saying that my family's safety is so important, I take nothing, and no one, for granted. The risk of being lax in my most important of responsibilities is not ever a question. And I do conduct myself the way I described above. While my wife and children are completely oblivious to any potential threat, and having the time of their life enjoying whatever, I'm on guard.

That's what a good husband and father does.

Got it. Sorry too... but I am very protective.

We were designed as protectors. It's in our DNA. I just play my role.

I'm going to have to find this article I read a few years back. It is the perfect argument for always being prepared. An anti-gun lobbyist in Maryland had his house broken into while his wife and he slept. The perp tied them up and ransacked their house... then raped his wife. He later went on Oprah or some other show and was STILL an anti-gun advocate. His wife divorced him. I'm going to try to find the article... I think it was in one of the NRA mags I used to get.

My point is as I said above, as men, we are protectors... it's our biological role. That guy's wife must have felt completely abandoned by her husband. I can't imagine. As a man, being naive to real-world threats that do exist and then willingly and negligently exposing yourself and those you love to potential harm without a means to defend them, in my estimation, is the worst of all betrayals.

i have some wired guy start coming up to me and a friend from behind. we wear about 30 feet from the doors of a mall in good part. we had walked out and the guy was buy the doors just starting to smoke and than started to come up on us fast we both got are knifes out of pocket and in hand. not fast slowly and he took off fast in another direction.

last summer a guys house got broke in to in a good part of town. the guy shot is son and wife down stairs (don’t remember if they died or not) the dad went down and shot and killed the guy that killed his son and wife. they did not live in bad part of town at all actually prob one of the best parts of knoxville to live.

I would do the same if someone broke in my house. or tried robing me or something els. if it came down to it. i much rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6!! if it means i keep my self and anyone with me safe!

^ I'd be interested in reading that.
I've taught martial arts for a long time and have plenty of hours hitting and getting hit, I'd be a fool to believe that I could rely on that 100%. Hand to hand I'd be more than confident, still not 100%, knife to hand still over 70% but knowing I'll be injured, but sure enough that I'd give my GF enough time to escape or get to the guns which would be a final scenario. Unarmed to gun toting attacker, certianly not wanting to risk it but would have to to protect the others in my home.

But why go through any of those when I could more than likely avoid harm by having my firearm and training avaliable to me at the drop of a hat, my home is set up to provide time for us all to react.

...funny, that's what most victims (who survive) say was their philosophy before the "incident"...

it's your perrogative to go about this as you'd like, but it's not cool to demean the OP and other supporters for their lifestyle... if you don't want to wear your seatbelt, ..fine, ...no fire extinguisher in your house, ..fine, ...no knive/gun/weapon, ...fine - all of this, even though you have the means, but don't want to, ...fine..

but, fact of the matter is, you never know where lightning will strike..

Man i guess my honey is a keeper, I was at his house one night and i was almost asleep, he was still awake. He heard a noise in the living room thought it was his dog getting in the trash, it woke me up when he yelled her name, and we both heard her right beside the bed, he jumps up tells me to stay there, grabs the pistol and goes out to the kitchen, there was a doggie door also that he didnt lock, but did after that. Turns out it was just two racoons that had gotten in and were raiding the kitchen, he came in and told me, i laughed me ass off, so we chased some coons outta the kitchen :D Im glad he jumped up to protect me though

OP did exactly the right thing. Showed he was prepared without over reacting. I've only had to draw my gun once, (to stop a carjacking in my home town of less than 3000 people), but that was enough. I'm keeping it within reach every where I go.
