I am new to here but not auto forums. I wanted to introduce myself. This is my first toyota and I am getting a 2012 tacoma long bed double cab with entune in a couple weeks.

I want to do a couple things ASAP.

    1. it comes with chrome rims and those things need a powder coating
    2. I need a cap because I like to keep things dry

should I put in an add a leaf for the cap I am putting on to keep the suspension up and in good shape?

Other than that I am just looking for comments.

    Thanks

Yes you might want to get an AAL for the weight of the shell if you don't plan on lifting it.
If you do plan on lifting it I would recomend a new leaf pack.

thanks a lot. Im going ot make the dealer powder coat the rims too because they got the chrome 18" inchers on it and I HATE chrome.

ugh, my dog just farted on my lap...

Anyway, thanks for the info. Im gonna get an AAL first then maybe later I will lift it once I see how I like it.

Welcome! I'm sure you'll be happy with your 2012. Not sure powder coating will work too well on the 18 inch plastic chrome wheel covers.

I don't think you need an aal for a cap since the 2012s come with a 4 leaf pack. It should be level with a cap..

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You absolutely do not need to beef up the rear for a cap. The tiny amount of weight is peanuts. It's what you're going to put in the bed of the truck that will make you have to decide what you need. I find the slight amount of preload in the back makes the truck ride nicer.

Did you buy a sport or off road?

If it's got the 18" wheels with chrome covers, it's a sport - part of the "sport upgrade package". Not sure why that's an "upgrade" though...

Ah, he should have a 4 leaf pack with the billies in that case. Don't worry about the rear suspension unless you're planning to lift the front.

Im buying the TRD sport upgrade but now that you say they are plastic rim covers on a $36K truck Im gonna tell them I dont want it. That really gets me upset they didnt say anything about it and were gonna try to pass this off. Ill have to keep shopping.

Are all the tacoma rims fake?

Thanks for the info. I just got a 2012 TRD Sport 4x4 Long Bed and put a Leer Cap on it and don't require any additional lift although the 17 inch tires do look kind of small now.....may need to upgrade.

Also, is there an option to get heated side view mirrors? The Parts Department at the local Toyota dealer stated they are not in the part inventory.

The non-upgraded sport rims are better than the sport upgrade rims in my opinion.

I would just go with the TRD Sport package instead of doing the upgrade package. The 17" rims on the TRD Sport and 16" rims on the TRD OffRoad are not "fake".

I think Ill ask the dealer to swap the rims off another truck for mine and then powder coat them. That "upgrade" is reely stewpid.

Hopefully they can do that for you, they gave me shit when I asked for a wheel/tire trade from another truck on their lot.

Just make sure you dont sign shit before you ask them to trade wheels. that way, when they say no, you can just say, aiight, then turn around and start walking out the door. 5 bucks says they will tell u they will do it lol.

strange thing is that when I was ordering the truck there was only one sport upgrade option and the one with entune and the 17 inch rims was no longer available. It is now available again and the truck is in transit and I should have it next week. $800 extra for daytime running lights and "chrome clad" rims just didnt turn me on so I am pretty excited I didnt get stuck with those. I like to be able to shut my lights off when pulling into a campground or at night and not a fan of daytime running lights.

Got my taco and I love it. I drove 2011's and all I can say is that haters are hating because they don't have a new truck. The 2012 is way better than the 2011.

    1. The Sport Upgrade came with the 4 leaf and not the 3 so no tsb for this guy.
    2. Entune is great and worth it. If you have a blackberry (which I do) then it works flawlessly. I have my ipod hooked up to it for audio. Paying for the upgrade for this is actually about the same as an aftermarket but the aftermarket wont get you voice commands.
    3. The ride is real quiet
    4. I hate the chrome clad wheels but I can live with them. The mechanics and I discussed it and they said it was done because the rims for other years were always bubbling up and getting damage so they just covered them up.
    5. backup camera in the entune is great
    6. still has some small issues to work out with entune but nothing bad. It will only get better with time and already blows away the features of any aftermarket.

I drove 2011 tacomas, 2012 f150s, siverados, FJ, and tons more and this was by far the best truck for the money. Get used to it old taco owners because its not changing. I had a jeep before this and the older owners always hated on the newer owners and it is just insane.

    my 2 cents.

Here it is with nothing so far. First thing that comes out is the inner dome lights and will all be replaced with LED lights.
