    Just bought it!
How secure is the soft topper when it closes? Like everyone else I'd love one for camping with my dogs, which would be it's primary use. I have an access cab so when I drive normally they're up in the cab with me, but on occasion I take them to the park and they end up muddy and wet. Is it secure enough for me to put 2(or more if a friend comes) in the back and assume they're not gonna be able to poke their head out the back or under one of the sides while I'm driving?? Is the back just a flap, or does it actually 'close' somehow?

and I assume it's perfectly easy to close when you're inside the bed? Obviously if people camp in them they must have thought of that, or do you let the rear flap just hang down?

The rear flap has a bar going through it and connects to plastic clamps on the side rails. I have the softtopper on mine and does well with dogs. I chose that one without the side windows because you cant fold them up with the windows on, plus its a little more secure. (well no one can looking in from the sides)

Thanks! Sounds good, I'm sure I could always throw in a few snaps or buckles or something random if I really wanted to keep the flap down.

I got a question for the Softopper peanut gallery, really an opinion. Looks like they don't make a Bestop for the 1st gen double cabs, so I'm going to go with the Softopper (preferred anyways). I have a black 2004 Prerunner, and instead of going with the obvious choice of a black Softopper, I was thinking about tan. I hear the tan hides dirt and age better, and I think it would look pretty cool.

Can't find any pics of this arrangement, so maybe that answers my question, lol.

What do you guys think? Tan Softopper on a black double cab?

I've seen some really nice black jeeps with tan toppers and it looks good. I think it will look cool. Any pic of your truck?

Only pic is from when I first got it (need to do a build thread)... But I think it would look cool too, and yea, it was the black jeeps with tan toppers that served as inspiration, just started wondering why I wasn't seeing more with that setup.

Nice truck! Do you have your truck set up for offroad (presently)?

I think if your going for the overland look it will look good.

I think you don't see more if these because everyone is going for that blackout/"murdered out" look.

But definitely post pic of your topper when it's on and start that build page.

^ No but I had to replace the rear door. The window was coming out at the top corners. I emailed Softopper they were very nice and responsive. They sold me the door at cost.

    I was happy with that.

Here's what softopper says about the doggy door option. No pic though.

Will this significantly impact MPG ?

Also is there a lot of noise from the soft top flapping in the wind ?

MOST IMPORTANTLY, Can this be placed behind a Back rack ?
