Yeah...I guess all I have to do it pass the piss test and the fit for duty test. I hope thats it.

I have been trying to get a job as a FF for almost 3 years...the competition is huge.

Yep, thats pretty standard for larger depts....except for the $500+ in fees...wtf?

Smaller departments have simpler processes.

 

I believe you get it back if you get on with them. If not...tough beans. Quit wasting the depts time and resources is their philosophy.

 

Only 3 years? Damn I've been trying for 6. For the past 2 years I got down to the final selection.

Looking at me and my job now, I dont know if I could go ride an engine for my career. I got my Paramedic to be a Paramedic

But I do love sticking 18 gauges first try while enroute on snow covered highways. Always an ego booster.

 

18s? Go straight to 16s or 14s

 

18's are cake....every pt. gets an 18g from me unless they are young or old and frail.

Now etoh?? Oh...they gettin' a 14 or 16. I need the practice for trauma

 

X2. But I have been known to put a 16 in an old women. On a suspected cva

I was a little hesitant cause my last shift I had horrible luck with IVs. And with his EToH level I didn't really feel like having him bleed all over me from missing.

Absolutely. But it also means I got zero sleep last night and slept in till 1430. And I felt like I could have used another 3-4 hours easy.

 

Any chance of moving this to green room? With some talk about accidents and patient care wouldn't this be better off there? Its just I know my boss doesn't like us to talk about our care where Joe public can read/hear it. If we could keep it members only wouldn't it be better?

 

I don't think medics actually deal with this but it's worth it to ask. Do you guys know of any common side affects to the body after someone stops smoking tobacco?

 

headaches and nausea are pretty common too...especially if you quit cold turkey

 

So long as it's vague enough that people can't link location to names it's all good. But I don't care if it gets moved to the green room.

Yeah, no thanks. I like my sleep just the way it is. I'd never apply for a job like that unless it pulled in 150K a year.

I like getting a call to a neighboring town, going hot to it, passing everyone, getting cancelled as soon as we get into town and hitting up coffee instead. Everyone coming into the town must have thought we were complete assholes.

"Outta my way! I need coffee! STAT!"

 

Any of you medics deal with ski patrol, delt with medics directly the past two days both backboard cases, and both times the ambulance crew got there and were amazed they had nothing to do but transport. They took vitals, but everything else was done before they arrived.
