DISCLAIMER: I am in no way shape or form a professional, just a college kid. If anyone sees a potential problem, please let me know and I will fix it.

Let me start off by saying I wanted a high clearance bumper from either ATO or Relentless, but the funds for one just aren't there. I decide I would try and build my own. It is not done yet but it's close. I got the majority of it done today and hope to finish this weekend. Here we go.

It all started as a pile of metal.
    1329536392_7094bed7563046e11aa373ba96baa087ee546d60.jpg

From there, I cut the main tube to size and added my receiver and gussets.

    1329619444_7d22270fa2919fff7cae38782bca15dfac53ef13.jpg

Test fit of the main tube.
    1329929252_812b6bab16641778386ee9626ad65d3d1cc89d43.jpg

I then cut, drilled and smoothed my shackle mounts out of 1 inch x 2 inch flat stock and cut them into the main tube.

    1330027386_26a813ff6fd72af3cb723bf2abe86fd359d56c30.jpg

    Then i mounted it up.

    DSCN0091_cecd9c0a7a2f9830b2f27700258763225650bc0f.jpg

    Added my corners next.

Then I cut and tacked on my wrap around pieces.
    DSCN0096_e84261c4bb183265187c874dc805e66e67fca767.jpg

Then pulled it off and began welding.

I still have a lot of work to do to it. Tomorrow is going to involve a lot of grinding and cleaning up. I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of the weekend. I will post pictures with my progress. Let me know what you guys think.:D

Make sure the front corners of the side pieces are tied back to the frame for proper support.

And when is the shackle flip coming? The shackle mount seems to be an eyesore with everything else out of the way. :D

So maybe tie in another piece of 1x1 square to the front? I'm totally interested in trying to make a shackle flip, just need to do some more research.

Looks good! Was just about to start designing one for my 06 as well, but I won't be having the wrap arounds like yours, just below the tail lights.

    Yep, or even round tubing.

You may have noticed the 2nd gen Taco's frame is double-walled in many places. That's why the stock hangers are riveted on, not welded. Your hanger should be bolted through the frame.

So I'm guessing just grind the rivets off? Placement of the flipped hanger would be the only issue I have.

Bumper looks nice so far. Any pics of the mounting structure? I would use 1-1/2" tube for the side supports going to the frame
