    whoa!
i had that bike. same colors and all.
    nicknamed it the "Gary Flounder"

    from what i remember....heavy.

that style is pretty old. mine was purchased pre 1999.
personally, i would not pay more than $200 for it

    it does look fairly clean.
but a bike that old, if it has been ridden, will have lots of slop in the susp pivots (grab tire and frame and wiggle laterally and you will prob feel some movement in the pivots)

Thx sock. I may go look at it, check it for slop and make an offer.
This guy has several other nice quality bikes for sale as well.

$350 too steep for this one
    I'd max at $150
there are better deals out there in the $350 range

Agreed Matic, that bike was the shit in 1999. If you cant get him down to $150 then keep looking. The benefit of fs will be nullified by the excess weight. You'd be way better off to put 350 towards a newer hardtail (ht) with disc brakes and decent fork. FS tech has improved immensely since that design. Boy do I remember foaming at the mouth for that rig years ago.

Oops I meant to put 238-240mm, but I measured again, and that's the non drive side. The one I need though is 235. I'm guessing the threads don't go down far enough to trim that much? I'm going to check the bike shop in a little bit and see how much they'll charge.

Thanks so much that helps a lot, its not much of a deal for $450obo after all then. $250 - $300 max?

Was that referring to the above?

Yes. assuming it is an 06. If it had a better lighter fork and hydraulic brakes perhaps I'd go 400. Of course if its had little wear and tear and the fit is perfect for the rider, you'll never regret the $$$$ spent.

Sound like it was barely ridden, and the size should fit perfect. Maybe I'll offer $250 or $275 and see, thanks for the advice.

That helped a lot! Looks like they have a bunch of good articles.

I ended up just getting everything at the lbs. It was a little more than ordering online and about twice as much as having them do it, but I'll be able to do it from now on. Plus its great weather here right now, so I got impatient. Oh and apparently I can't measure; it turns out I needed a 265mm spoke. So, I guess its a good thing I didn't order one online.

I used to have an 06 hardrock. Got it for $200 two years ago, never ridden. It had rim brakes and a non-adjustable fork. It was a good entry level bike. I sold it for $200 last fall after I put new shifters and rear derailer on it.

It would be for my gf so nothing too serious, but should be a decent step up from wall mart type of bike. I myself ride an 05 Rocky Mountain Fusion with several upgrades. (post #807)

Definitely! I rode a Next before that which made the Hardrock seem amazing!
