Were they doing this right?

I was at discount tire the other day getting a rebalance and tire rotation done...I then noticed that the frame wasn't in contact with the lift. The blocks they put made contact with the cab instead of the frame, so to me it looks like the entire weight of the truck is being held up by the cab and cab mounts...which doesn't sound too good.

If you look closely, it does look like the lift makes contact with the frame, but it isn't.

What do you guys think?

It should be contacting the frame.

 

No it should be lifted either by the frame or the jacking locations.

 

The driver's side is on the pinch weld no ?

 

I'd go torque all your cab mounts now. That's just tarted. Where is this?

The discount tire in my area have always been really nice folks, never had a problem with them, I was just curious to know what was right or wrong.

Thats pretty stupid of them OP. They were using a low boy lift, so they should have used the blocks on the frame themselves.

It is, but it is not a unibody so the frame is preferable due to weight and the stress on the body mounts.

Stress on the body mounts is exactly what I was thinking...

I know our trucks aren't unibodies...we have body-on-frame types. We'll see if they do it again next time. Its my first time noticing it, and it maybe was just that guy working that day.

That's the appropriate way to lift a unit body passenger car. It's not the right way to lift a truck that has a separate frame. I would have called them out on it, that's a good way to damage the truck body.

 

Like I said, it's the first time I noticed it, and when I was there I didn't know if it was standard procedure or not, or if it was just that guy working on my truck. I suspected it wasn't since it's not a Honda Ridgeline, we actually have a frame

If I see it again, I'll speak with the manager.
