Immaculate conception. I blame Steven Harper.

99.9% of Albertan's think he's God so we'll go with that.

Ice and beer. That's why we're so accustomed to cold and drinking.

Vancouver's by far my favorite city. Considered looking into moving there once upon a time and may yet do so one day. Anyhoo, the last time I was there I stayed at the Park Inn on Broadway. Nice hotel and reasonably priced. Awesome skyline views too, just make sure to get a room on the scenic side or you're looking at the dumpster. Outstanding eateries and drinkeries within walking distance too.

Here's the view from my balcony-

Understandable we Americans weren't to fond of the Monarchy, you guys do share the Queen of England / Royal Family, right?

When exactly was Canada's Independence? The date 1867 kept popping up and the term British North America was used a lot during the 1812 time frame? Not saying Canadians didn't fight in this war just some honest ?'s from one interested American. Thanks.

You are correct, during the war of 1812 It was technically the Brits VS the US, Canada wasn't even a country till 1867 as you mentioned. But the war was fought by the same people from the same area. Canada was only under the British empire until after WW1 when we gained complete independance. We still show our respect for the british monarchy, but by no means do they have any power here.

HEHEHE. Kits is pretty good. Only bad area is really hastings/Cordova after Cambie. Lots of needles there. Vancouver's a lot cleaner since the olympics. Tore out ond cleaned up a lot of areas. China towns kinda sketch still. Not a whole lot there.

Gas town's also a cool area. Lots of bars. Its really old architecture, brick roads and everything. Id check that out. Wouldnt stay there tho.

Here's a question for you Great White Northerners-

What are the mining/prospecting laws like in Cananada? Can y'all as individual citizens file mineral rights claims on public land like we do here in Los Estados Unidos?

Not a 100 sure. If you own the land and you find oil it's yours. Not sure about public someone else would have to answer that

You have to own the mineral rights to the land or else it's the governments.

Crown land is the governments but you can lease mineral rights

Interesting. So this sounds kind of like what we do with the BLM. We're not leasing the rights per-se, but do have to pay for initial claim fiilings and annual maintenance. Thanks!

Even on private land , the mineral rights are often owned by someone other than the land owner .

They started stripping mineral rights off land titles for the crown when they built the railway and were giving land to settlers. The titles that do have mineral rights still are the ones the registrars office fuxked up on or are from the owners prior to the railway being built. A few people found these titles including the mineral rights and bought them, but the registrar just stripped the mineral rights off when the titles were transferred for the sale.
