I got mine up to 23 mpg. After cold air. New fuel pump. Fuel and oil filter and I find driving softer made a huge difference I was at 18 before. It varies on temp and what type of driving takes me a half tank to get to the mountains and a 1/4 coming back because the elevation

Pretty sure I'm getting like 15mpg at the moment. But I've been driving rather aggressively so that'll put a crimp on things.

Doesn't have to be a troll. That's my goal this summer, to have at least one 25 mpg tank on this crappily geared Aisin tranny.

My dad got almost 23 a couple times on his 08 TRD-OR, but it had the automatic and his foot is heavier than uranium compared to mine.

    Troll?...... NO

I don't get 25mpg. Read my post again.
I think 25mpg would be GOOD. I did NOT say I get 25mpg.

But I don't think 21mpg is all that bad, considering a lot of other trucks gets less.

We did NOT have an option for OK mileage.
So I simply explained why I clicked "GOOD", even though I don't think it is GOOD.
But I don't think it is BAD either.

    Read my post again.

Interesting. No 'ok' or 'acceptable' option. Maybe the poll should have been

10-12: my truck sucks at life and fuel
13-15: bad, don't tell the wife
    16-18: it's a truck, don't worry about it
19-21: I meet or beat EPA. Life is good
22-25: it's good and I make all my friends mad at themselves for not buying toyota
26-29: everyone knows I drive like grandma and am afraid of the end of the pavement
30+: ok now I'm just showing off

Yes sorry misread your post. It's just that so much people in here claim impossible mileage it's funny. I also consider our "medium trucks" mileage shitty to what new fullsizes can get. If at least we would have some decent up-to-date tech like double vvti, it would get an acceptable mileage compared to today's standard (4runner is heavier and still get better mileage, imagine what the tacoma could get with the double vvti). Hell, I HAVE to use some hypermiling techniques to get to 20 mpg. Going at a normal highway speed of 75 mph with 5$/gallon gas is like throwing money out the window with this truck, while lot of fullsizes get very similar mileage once up to highway speed.

... Though I still think it is a very good truck ;)

Maybe we can make a list of what RPMS to be at when the truck is shifting(For Autos).

Yesterday I noticed that doing 100 km/h(speed limit) that my RPMS were around 2000-2200, steady. If When I dropped down to around 94-96 km/h my RPMS dropped to around 1300. So when I drive under 90 km/h my RPMS will be under 2000. 60 km/h will drop down to 800. Also when I hit 60 km/h I let off the gas then it drops to 800 from around 2000.

So maybe a guide to help others when it comes to accelerating and shifting. It might help some of us get better MPG's, while driving with an egg under our foot.

I had a hard time getting a consistent figure for mpg for my new 2001 double cab automatic 4X4 SR5 short bed. Then I decided to fill the tank until it wouldn't take any more gas. By this I mean until the gas would run out of the filler pipe. Then after driving around in the Atlanta area for a week, but not on the interstate I filled it up again until it ran out. Then I divided the gallons used into the milage and got 18.5 mpg city driving. :) ( not to much stop and go though most everything is 50 mph or less ) I think this is much more accurate then guessing how much gas was actually used.

    gt40

PS: The truck only has about 500 miles on it and the gas mixture is the winter blend now I think. February 2012.

Yeah! You're not suppose to fill the tank right up. Once you hear a "click" of the gas pump is when you're suppose to stop. Just an FYI.

I knew "dat". Just had to know I was getting better than 15.5 mpg. :D

    gt40

PS: What is the reason if you will drive at least 20 miles after leaving the gas station. Why would it matter?

When gas goes into the tank it pushes air out. That air has gasoline vapor in it so instead of just venting out the filler hole they put a charcoal canister inline with the vent tube. It catches the vapors so the air vented out is cleaner. These vapors are then burned by the engine (which actually gives a mild mileage boost).

When the tank is full enough to make pressure at the filler hole (which is when the pump shuts off) it's about done pushing air out that vent. Keep filling and it might push it far enough to get to the canister, which ruins it.

    Good for a not-so-cheap CEL

Best way to track your mileage is with multiple tanks. It doesn't matter if it's filled to the same point every time once the data has been smoothed out with many data points. Sure there'll be outliers due to sensitive gas pumps and such but it won't throw off your overall trend because it's compensated for with the next fill.

Currently averaging 21.6. Last tank was 22.7. I increased the tire pressure to 35 lbs 3 fillups ago and have seen 1/2 to 1 mpg gain. I drive 48 miles to work about 60/40 highway to back roads. Speed on highway is between 65 and 70 mph. I think I can hit 25 mpg when the winter gas is gone.

ok first lets start clarifing if you have a 4x4 of not. i4 or 6cl. some of these numbers are quite perplexing, some guys like myself have tried everything to get 17-18 and barely make the cut, then i see someone with a similar truck more lift steel bumpers, bigger tires, carry a tool box, etc getting 20+.

not calling bullsh** but, Bullsh**. you can see where i am coming from i hope. again no disrespect but please create a thread link to your sig and teach the 900+ that are getting shi**y milege. shoot the first person that can give me detailed instructions on how they are getting 350+ on a DC SB 4x4 6speed V6 will get a paypal payment from me upon conformation. i do not care if i have to drive 100 miles on the highway at 50 miles an hour. let us see some imperical data that shows the 20+.

i hope to see many responses, please pm me with tire size/mt-or at/psi, equipment you carry, (ie bumpers, winches, etc) lift, add ons, (cold air, exhaust, turbo, supercharger, etc) etc.

i will take my truck to as close to yours as possible, if not lighter in the process to best your results.

give me a detailed description of your drive to recreate. only has to be 10 miles or longer.

i will make the runs and show on my 09 that 20+ is stupid good. STUPID GOOD! 329 is a great tank if you are asking me what i get, 295-310 usually. gas is 87 octane, up to 10% ethenol

    thank you

MurphyZ. How much data do you want? All of the info is in this forum. Most important...don't go above 2000 rpms. PERIOD. Back roads, highway, driveway. Keep the rpms at 2k or below. I drive a 2012 Sport AC V6 auto 4x4 bone stock. The only thing that has been done is increase tire pressure. I use 87 octane cheap as I can find gas. Best tank so far was 398 miles on 18.5 gallons. Before this truck I had an 09 4cyl 5spd 4x4 and got 25mpg in the winter and 27+mpg in the summer. It's all in the way to drive.
