Wheelers 5 pack without the overload??

I am considering the wheelers 5 pack for my suspension setup.

I currently have 1.25'' shackles in the rear that I dont really want to get rid of. So with the wheelers pack w/ the overload and the shackles I would be getting close to 3'' of lift, but I only want about 2''.

Could removing the overload get me closer to how much lift I want, and will the pack work fine without it?

I never haul anything in the bed, and I dont tow...so the overload would serve no purpose really.

 

I've never heard of anyone doing this, so not sure how sound it would be.

Have you considered just getting the Dakars?

$100 less than 5-pack (1.5 in.) Estimate 2.25 lift. Ditch the shackles, get a bitching set of leafs.

I think I would do this if I were you. Cheaper, better.

 

I installed a mini leaf pack to mine and the instructions said to discard the overload as I did, thinking back on it I wish I had went ahead and re installed it as you never know when you will need it.

 

Dakars are made for 98+ tacomas (I have a 97)...I would need to cut off my front and rear springs hangers and move them in order to use dakars...way too much work IMO...and I dont have the resources to weld something like that myself that is going to be critical to the safety of the vehicle.

I also dont like how Dakars are made in Malaysia...the wheelers/Alcan leaves are made in the USA.

 

Ah, I missed that detail. I wasn't aware they didn't make any for models earlier than 98.
