Rust-Oleum spray on bedliner.

I just finished painting stock skid plate. I know it dosen't really do shit but I wanted to give my truck a little different look and I love the black on white look.

 

It's good stuff! I used it to paint my lower valance.

 

Keep going, pain the Valance with the same paint....

 

i just painted my valance and avid light bar with the stuff. that stuff works great!

 

I did my sport wheels with it. It's pretty tough and easy to touch up.

 

When you painted it, did you remove it or paint it while it was on the truck?

 

I know it is more expensive but get a place that does spray in liners to do that. Any spray on liner in a can is garbage.

 

Did you guys spray directly on the valence? or was there some prep work? sanding or primer involved? I have mine Plasti-Dipped now but would rather have it with the bed liner look.

Spencaf-- I painted mine on the truck. Lots of masking off but easy enough

 

Taped it off and painted it right on the truck!

I lightly sanded it before painting, just break the surface of the clear coat and you'll get good adherence.

BTW, I used Duplicolor spray on bedliner.

So spend 3x the money to paint a small section of valance? Try the rustoleum bed liner, it's not a bad product and is easily touched up. Just cause you used it once a while ago and it didn't hold up doesn't mean any spray can bed liner is garbage...

 

Does it still have that rough spray in bed-liner look? Even though its in a can? Or is it more just a paint?

 

It's got a textured finish to it. It does harden to a much tougher finish than paint also. Truth be told, if you went to line-X, it would be a better product (Line-X is awesome stuff), but to me it's not worth the added cost for just painting accessories or something like the lower valance. For what it is, I think the Rustolem Bedliner is a great product. Just my $0.02.

I used the stuff on the front bumper cover on my '03 Tundra after the paint started chipping on a Caliber-painted replacement after an accident. I wasn't happy with it. I scuffed the paint well, but I was still out there touching up that cover every few months... it just wasn't durable on the front surface.
The spray-on bedliner paint is intended to be used for "touchups" in small areas that can't be reached with the roller/sponge when applying the canned Herculiner type products.

I've used the stuff dozens of times on various items, and it's a great product as long as you understand it's limitations and weaknesses. I've used it on a steel entertainment center that I welded up for the big screen, the motorcycle fairing and a couple of other parts, and intend to use it to create the base texture on my center console after I replace my bench with buckets.

But on the front of a truck? I'd go with something more durable.

 

i lightly sanded then used dupli-color self etching primer then hit it with very fine sandpaper again and then sprayed on rustoleam spray on bed liner. im pleased with the look/texture

 

can we get some pics of your rims with it on? and what was the process?

 

Try the rustoleum bedliner, it cures very hard. I ended up painting my front valance because it was getting chewed up and the white paint was gouged in several areas. I painted my NFab light bar also with it and it's holding up great so far. I had some overspray and had a hell of a time sanding it down. So far it's held up very well on the front of my truck so far.
