Buying CB radio. Advice wanted

Hello, im looking to buy a CB radio and i was curious from yall's opinion or point of view which radio, or brand is the best. Which one is actually worth the money?

 

it all depends on what you do with the cb how far you wanna reach? what channels you are on? i have my grandfather's old tristar 240 in has the high low with 40 channels on each but thats bc i use it for hunting and when me and my friends go on road trips or around town

 

Just what the previous response said,just how much do you want to reach out and touch some one.In my job I use a Galaxy radio, wilson t2000 antenna and a road king antistatic mike average range depending on terrane is anywhere from 2 to 15 miles alot also depends on the amount of radio waves in the atmosphere.A lot of factors are involved on distance the main thing is clearity on reception and transmition.

 

You need to decide how much $$$$ to use for this project...

Then decide how much interior space you want to use,bigger the radio the more SPACE you need to lose/use .....

How are you going to use the CB; full time jawing, part time with friends on rides,trips and meets or just mount the antenna & radio and say "I got one too !!!"

The smaller Unidens ( 510 series) or the smaller Cobras ( $$) can usually handle anything thrown at them with the RIGHT ANTENNA....$$

The Cobra 75 WXST is a power punch and takes up very little space but $$$.....

Now if you jump up to a "LOUD" radio or a multi-channel RIG ...$$$-$$$$

Read,read and read some more on ALL of the threads here about CB's....some of these folks have had easy,plug and play experiences while others came close to burning the house down....

Learn from their "installs" both the good & bad....

My Tacoma has a flex mount mounted passenger side of cup holders and my Uniden or Midland ride there part time while my 'Lil Wil" rides on the cab roof or my toolbox....
My "Mack Office" has my Magnum S-3 tucked up overhead with a single 4' Firestick mounted drivers side mirror.....

 

I dont have much experince with CB's....but I can tell you this: No matter what CB you get...dont cheap out on Coax and an antenna. An expensive CB will only be as good as the coax and antenna.

Check out firestik antenna kits.

And a cheap CB will perform similarly to an expensive one...they are all regulated by the FCC to the same power output. But the $$$ will dictate the number and quality of features and bells and whistles.

the firestik are good but also look at the wilson 1000 and 5000. i use the wilson 1000 and i love it. also like other people said think of mounting it. i had mine bungee corded to the center console on the passenger side but when my friends got in the would kick it and pull the cord so i chose to mount mine to the headliner. Also i would recommend getting a power mic they make you sound clear

 

Wow, thanks you guys for all of your help! Ya'll seem to know what yall are talking about! Mostly i just wanna use it to hunt along with talkin to friends around town so it doesn't really have to be one that can reach out over that long of a distance. I've been browsing on the internet looking and pricing, as well as asking friends how they liked theirs and what not. So far i've tended to lean towards Cobra, like the Cobra 29 Classic, it's what a number of my friends have and they seem to like it. My stepdad used to have the 29 and he said he really liked it so ill keep looking around and whatnot. But I really havent looked at firestik's stuff yet so i'll look there before i make my decision on the wilson's yet.

 

You're gonna need a handle haha!

 

How does that lil wil perform when it's on your toolbox? I don't want to put it on my roof and get it all scratched up.
