So I just bought an 06 Tacoma dbl cab just about about a month ago. I love the tuck. I was driving my truck this after and in the way home I stop to get a drink and ad I was leaving and driving threw the parking lot I noticed a speaking noise from my driver side rear. I got out and checked it and the drum was pretty warm. And the other side was cool. So I hit the e brake a few times and then drove a ways to a car wash. I checked it again and it was even hotter. So I washed the wheel off cause it was covered in mud from going off road the other day. So I washed it and there was no speak. So I drove around and it still got a little hot but not to bad. I talked to a family member that is a mechanic and he said its nothing to worry about. I need to worry once/ if or when it glows, or breaks smoke. I'm just worried that something might be wrong. Has anyone had this happen? Is it normal and I'm freaking out on nothing or is something wrong. I was thinking of taking my wheel off and checking the drum.

speaking? You mean squeaking? If so, jack the rear of your truck up safely, remove the wheel, and pull off your drum. It may have dirt/debris in there and making your return mechanism not allow it to return back, and maybe the brake shoes are lightly pushing against the drum. GL

PS. Since you have the drum off, spray some brakleen/brake cleaning solvent in there, it may help if there isnt a noticeable about of dirt in the drum.

Sounds like a shoe is dragging. Worst case scenario is new drums and brake shoes.

Is getting to the drum easy? I haven't had to do it in a Tacoma yet. I have done plenty of cars before but when I crawled under it, it looked different than anything I have seen.

Pull the wheel, theres the drum. M8 x 1.25 bolt IIRC use some penetrator lube and slowly back the drum off using the threaded holes in the drum. Spray the whole thing down with brakecleen and inspect for damage and worn drums and shoes. Might have to back off the brakes to get the drum back on.
