Hey guys, new here. I'm looking to buy a Tacoma to replace my POS Grand Cherokee. I found a really clean '04 with 83k miles, drives great, seems to check out. They're asking $16990. However it has a slightly leaky sunroof. I know some rare trucks have factory sunroofs, but do you guys have any idea how I can find out if this is one of them?

    Thanks for the help.

04 tacomas never had a sun roof

EDIT: Yep that is the asking price for an 04 tacoma with low miles. I bought my 04 tacoma for 16k with 120k miles.

Check for rust. That seams a little high though. Try to talk them down a little bit. I payed about 17,500 with 27k on the odo.

They do go for a pretty high price around here as well. I do think that's too high though. I was looking at an 04 two years ago, 80K miles, v6 4x4 TRD, auto trans, campershell. They were asking 15,500 at a new car dealership.

Well my trade is an '06 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 55k miles (paid off). It has an incurable trans problem that I have spent way too much money on over the past 2 years. Luckily if you're not used to driving it, you won't notice it right away. That being said, it's very clean and shows well. So I offered them my Jeep and $2k cash and he countered with $3k cash. The rotors feel warped so I may go back with $2500.

Even though the Tacoma is 2 years older and has 33k more miles I feel like the reputation of Tacomas longevity is better than Chrysler under Mercedes' watch.

Im pretty sure that the sun roof was an option. I saw two while i was looking. I think that price is way too high. Dealer? If youre patient the right deal will come along.

+1. Around here at least for that price, it wouldn't be around long.

It really depends on the area though so be sure to compare the prices of what similar trucks are going for.

That sounds awfully high to me. I bought my 2004 Double Cab V6 4x4 back in Dec 08' for $14,200 from a Chevy dealer. It even came with a locker and it's not a TRD. It had 53K on the clock at the time as well. I saw the motor on the rear diff and the button in the cab but the dealer didn't even have it mentioned in their add! Been an excellent truck, put over 20K on it since then without a single problem that wasn't a wear item or my own fault.

It varies greatly by region, but i wouldn't even think about paying that much for a 2004.

I got my 04 xtra cab 4x4 with 80k~ miles for 10k in Sept 2010. Its a 4cyl tho, they are usually a little cheaper (non locker, TRD model)
I have a sunroof too, I love it. It will drip here and there if the weather goes from really cold (below freezing) to warm quickly. I think water gets inside the rubber seal and freezes enough to expand it and allow a drip.
When I say a drip, I mean just that, one or two single drops. Not enough to get anything wet.

Yeah, the interior is super clean, so I'm sure the leak isn't a big deal.
It's a 6cyl double cab, TRD, locking rear diff, power windows/locks, very well equipped.
The price is about right for my area, Tacomas don't last long.

I want to go drive it again because yesterday I forgot to check the 4x4... What's the best way to be able to tell if everything is engaging properly when I put it in 4x4?

This ^^. Option list (attached) doesn't include a sun roof.
    Definitely this ^^!

Price does vary with location. Do the homework for your area to confirm how good/bad a deal this one is.

Disagree. There are plenty of aftermarket sunroofs that work great and do not leak. There are also lots of OEM sunroofs that suck. A cheap quality, OEM or aftermarket, sunroof is going to be garbage. Depends on the quality of the install as well as the design.

Many people that dont actually have sunroofs claim they all suck and pour water in. My OEM Toyota doors and windows leak more than the sunroof. My OEM cowl/firewall lets water in like a waterfall because of a poor design and lack of sealing by Toyota. There is a TSB on it for the 97-04 trucks, so they essentially messed up for 7 years.

To simply say to stay away from aftermarket sunroof simply because they are not OEM is misinformation. Aftermarket and OEM both have good and bad items.

That's the ballpark price range I'm seeing here in New England, frikin' things hold their value...trouble is, every low mile Taco I've seen so far has been formerly registered as commercial, fleet, or had a plow at one time or another. I passed recently on a sunroof equipped truck. Looked like it was done in someone's shop class, and the dealer was not moving on price

Op to see if the 4 wheel works put in low range and try and turn on pavement if it binds up you'll know that it is working.
Price is a little high but ball park for a lot of people.

I had an after market sun roof the type that opens, installed in 01my ( car ) same roof the OEM manufactures use, not one complaint here of course it wasn't cheap I think I spend $1400.00 Ya get what you pay for.
