I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
Does everyone that has an opinion on iran have experiance in the middle east?
We're not only in two wars right now. There's korea, libia, cuba, and even in south america.

As far as iran, setting off a nuclear weapon would guarantee their destruction. Theyre not stupid. How would they even use it?!? They dont have icbm's, trident subs, or an air force with long range capabilities. And its not like in the movies where you can just throw a nuke in a pickup and drive it somewhere. They are HEAVY, complex, large things.

    You are so correct!!
Our first president told us to mind our own business and stay out of foreign affairs, and stay out of foreign wars. I believe he was correct.

Korea is almost out of the war picture. Since Kim Jung Il died, his son has started peace talks and is trying to negotiate things with us. I don't see Korea happening anytime soon.
Now the South America thing.... Yes, I see that happening and us trying to fight the drug cartels here in the next couple years.

Iran will come as close to building a bomb or having the capability to do so. It's probable that they will actually build a few. We will end up living with that reality. Saudi Arabia will then feel the need to have the bomb and perhaps some other Sunni led government.

This is a hard issue to discuss with Americans as they don't pay too much attention to history but it looks like the journey to justify war with Iran has started much the same as the one for war with Iraq and the only result will be death and destruction with very little accomplished except that the defense industry will make millions on the backs of young men and women who have little choice but to join the military as the American economic empire implodes.

Bowser, I was simply responding to someone's assumption that we could do nothing to IraQ, because they have a "modernized" military. I said nothing about Nuclear weapons. Read further into the thread, and you will see what I was commenting on. I do appreciate your overeaction and hostility. Sha na na would be disappointed in you.

what is wrong with "MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION" Hillary stated that when she was running for president.
go ahead and build a warhead. build 100. but if you use one or sell one and its used, then there will be no more IRAN. Period.
It worked during the cold war and even right now.
1973 Russia threaded to send in paratrooper to the middle east and Nixon uncovered the silo's. They backed down.

Korea shouldn't be considered a threat anymore. They would be "destroyed" if we took Military action against them. They may have a 4 million man army, but the status of the country doesn't show they would be up to any armed conflict. Iran however, would certainly be a problem. Not only fighting a radical regime, but Iran is very mountainous and the terrain would certainly pose problems. Plus, where would we be able to mount a station for any type of assault? Saudi's would say no I'm sure. Israel? Iraq would be the one, but then you are fighting 2 countries. Shit is going down sometime this year, and its just going to make it to expensive to drive my Taco around :(

Wouldn't China send more "volunteer" troops if we got involved in actual fighting there?

So the idea of a nuclear bomb packaged in to a brief case and set off in the middle of the city is also bullshit?

I really hope so. Seems a little easy to do so much damage.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
We do, just not what you are thinking. We have the KKK, plus all of the other underground groups you don't hear about yet. Plus, like the MEK is "sponsored" by Iran, the CIA is sponsored by the USA which in some countries is almost considered a terrorist group with the activities that they do.

Without suggesting any support , I would suggest " terrorist , insurgent , and freedom fighter " are labels applied based on the affiliations with one's own cause .

Glad to see this thread is still going on.

Junglefighter and KalamaKid are providing a lot of valuable free education. Saves me a lot of typing.

    As for this:

Bingo. The media/political campaign to ingrain the "war on terrorism" as the cause du jour over the past decade has managed to make an entire generation that came of age during that time have no realization whatsoever that Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida stated their express purpose was to try to bankrupt the US.

Looking at our current balance sheet, the situation is very precarious. And war costs are the primary drivers.

I'll repeat my original point: This country, very literally, cannot afford a war with Iran. Outcome is irrelevant. The economic damage would not take sides and would very likely be catastrophic. You think the economy is in rough shape now? Watch what would happen if Iranian oil stops flowing into the world market.

    Interesting topic, and interesting thread.

I'm gonna put my .02 in here.
As a soldier I normally try to get out of political topics, so I'm gonna concentrate on whats Tangible.
I've been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan twice. In order to discuss on the middle east first you need to go there and see for yourself. Second, you need to know the history of the Middle East. This area as seen War for centuries. In the early 1900's the Brits had there grimy hands in Iraq and Afghanistan. (I'm in fact not 900 meters from an old British fort in Afghanistan) They started making boundaries and instilling there ideas among people with opposite views. When I was in Basra, Iraq. there were more Civilian security contractors than military outside the wire. and almost all of them Were British companies patrolling the Oil refineries, drills and buildings.
Once you see with your eyes, it does not become about Revenge or Protecting the lands of the US. You see that you're just a pawn for Corporate America. Now I'm gung-ho type of guy and love the fighting man to the right and left of me, and love my country. But in my 3rd deployment it hit me, that the goverment did not send me over here for revenge of the Trade towers but to keep the westerners hands in Oil.

I do not want to see the US invade Iran, What will we gain from that. the possibilities of Stopping them from developing Nuclear weapons? America needs to concentrate in Herself. We are sending billions of dollars to countries that less then 1% of the population has ever breathed the air of that country.
Our Military is stretched then and after 7 years in Iraq, and 10 years(stilling counting) in Afghanistan. The US military needs to re-train and re-fit, if we want our country to succeed. ITs like going a total of 17 rounds in a boxing match....only so much we can take before we hit the mat.

North Korea isnt much threat I agree, but we are still at war with them in the sense that we have combat troops there in a defensive role. Same with cuba, and we also rotate combat troops in south america to fight the drug cartels.
    It is total bullshit.

HA, funny you mention this, cause I had an old combat engineer platoon sgt who had an MOS that revolved around carrying a small tactical nuke in a rucksack. Of course the did away with the MOS, but it was introduced in the cold war. Where The individual was trained in setting the backpack nuke next to military complex's and learn to survive in a make-shift fallout shelter out of blast range.
