I have a 97 dlx 2.7 4x4.....can i use mobil 1 ls 75/90 in the differential?

75w-90 Gear oil is suitable for the diffs in our trucks. I have mobil 1 in my diffs and amsoil in my tranny/t-case.

Both are good.

Now I don't know if you can run LSD fluid in a non-lsd rear end...

 

Nah it really doesn't matter. The lsd additive won't affect a non-lsd but no additive will hurt an lsd.

Thanks for the info....does anybody no the hex size for the front dif. drain plug? it seems to baffle the autozone folks.

 

On that note, I have Motul 90PA gear oilf sitting here. It's a mineral oil designed for use with LSD's, and I use it in my Subaru with a clutch-type LSD with no problems.

Can I use the mineral oil based fluid in my truck's front diff and locking rear, or should I go through the hassle of trying to swap it out for the Motul 75w90 gear oil?

10mm fits the fill plug, not the drain plug, i called toyota and they could only tell me a part #. it's a hex bit bigger than 10mm...and auto stores don't seem to carry anything bigger than a 10mm...if i could figure out the exact size i could call an order one. it's a small, weird thing but what the hell.

 

Front diff drain plug is a 12mm hex.

Be sure to get a pump for the oil so you can get it in the front diff. Got mine from O'Reilly as it works for gallon and quart sizes.

Also, been mentioned before on here, but a good tip. Undo the filler plug first. Then the drain. If the truck is your only vehicle then it does you no good to drain out all the fluid and then can't get the filler out to refill it!

I did a quick look around ABQ when I did mine for the 12 mm bit socket. Seems Grainger had them (at least online they listed having it), but I did not find anything larger than 10mm at most places. I ended up buying one off eBay that actually is pretty nice and seems good quality. Think I paid $6 something including ship if I remember right.

As a PS, if you are going to do the gearbox and want to use Redline they have the MT90 at Desert Rat (across from the Fiat place). I paid $12 something a quart which I thought was pretty reasonable.

If you live in the south go for it. If it gets cold I would run 75w. Thats some overkill for your duff though.
