I also got TSB work done yesterday and am surprised at the difference. I drove a 1st gen (2004) until 1 month ago when I got the 2009. It rode like a truck. This new truck felt mushy and more like an SUV than a truck.

Now, the ride is not as rough as my 2004 but it seems to corner better and has a more stable feel. I am pleased and happy that I can use my truck again for its intended purpose.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I got shot down. I'm going to pick up my truck in 15 minutes. I'll let it slide because I'm confident they'll end up adding the '09 to the TSB. One thing I will throw a fit over and refuse to pick up or sign for the truck is if they tried to sticker the door jam. I made sure I checked before I dropped it off and there was no sticker as I bought my '09 in August of '08. I also printed out the payload capacities for the truck I bought, not a stickered truck. I definitely did not agree to have my payload capacity "lowered." I plan on checking my truck before I even step foot in the office. Toyota is pissing me off. Honestly, I almost wish I bought the Frontier.

They didn't try to slap a sticker on my truck, so I can only assume the '09, or at least the early '09's before the stickers, are eventually going to be added to the TSB. My father had a good question. I assume the payload capacity with only the 3 leaf springs is 290lbs less than advertised, that's why they stickered them. The sticker is probably their way of doing away with this TSB. So the question is; is Toyota set up for a class action lawsuit for false advertising? The truck I signed a contract to buy advertised a payload capacity of 1295lbs, not 290lbs less. Like I said, it seems the early '09s didn't get the sticker. I'm going to make this a seperate thread because I'd like to see what others thik and they might not look thru an '09 TSB thread.

We had our 2009 double cab done under the TSB. Ours does not appear to have the "sticker" but ours is a mexican produced not a US produced truck which was made in DEC of 08.
I am pretty new to the board but it seems people here enjoy polls quite a bit, why not start a poll to find out the number of 09's that tried for the tsb and got it vs tried for the tsb and were sent away. That way one would have a rough idea of the percentage of 09s being honored, if the stats are high it might just help with some of the more resistant dealers (ie "all the other kids got a TSB, why can't I have one too??"). Come to think of it that approach didn't get us a Nintendo when I was a kid so it probably won't work in this case either.

It would be interesting to see how many '09s have the infamous "sticker" and how many don't as well. Now if I can only figure out how to create a poll....

At Superior. The Salesman was Justin (Ayers)?. I was the first one they've done, but his tech was aware of the TSB and they gave me no hassles. Do not even attempt to go to Olathe Toyota. They blamed the front grill guard and would not touch/warantee any suspension components.

Mine says 290lbs. Are you sure you read it right or are they playing with us?

I picked up my truck last thursday ,my truck was made in California,11 /08, accesscab,PRERUNNER,TRD ,payload #1415 ,i also have only three leafs on my spring system ,no tow package ,So just for kicks i went to the toyota web site http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/specs.html, low and behold in the spec capacities column foot note payload 3 says "if the curb weight is increased by adding components (such as a bigger engine or automatic transmission the payload rating will decrease)".

So i guess the big printh givith and the small printh taketh away. They seem to have covered their a** with this ??????

However if you check out the 4X4 version my truck and the payload is only 1320 which seems to indicate the payload was already reduced ,so what really gives here . Last i spent alot of time researching this truck to get it right. I am not a happy guy with this slight of hand . I would like my 290 pounds back. jacktautog

I could be completely wrong here, but I seem to remember reading in a different thread some time ago that only trucks with the tow package had the reduced capacity sticker. The thinking was that the tow package added 290 lbs of weight to the truck, thus lowering the payload capacity by 290 lbs. It has nothing to do with where the truck was made or which springs it has. If the stickers are only on the '09s (not sure of this), I'm guessing that it would be because owners of earlier Tacomas were not factoring in the weight of additional options (such as the tow package) and were routinely overloading their trucks beyond the payload rating. This in turn may have led to a lawsuit, which in turn led to the creating of the stickers to remind users that their trucks are heavier than a standard truck, thus reducing payload.

Or like I prefaced this with, I could be completely wrong...

It seems to me as if the stickers were put on at random.
