Hello, just picked up a sig 226 and 220 to go along with my 1100 shotgun. My shotgun always lived in my closet in a hard case with the tube full but chamber clear.( no kids ) so my new question is how would you store a home defence pistol? We live across the street from the beach so I'm kinda worried about corrosion. Right now they are in pelican cases I had for my cameras but the case is too big to fit next to the bedside table or in the drawer. How important is it to have a moisture proof storage box? I know it's important for my cameras but not sure how important it is for firearms:notsure:

You can get some moisture absorbent pads if your worried about moisture but if your cleaning them regularly you shouldn't have any worries unless you accidentally left it outside in the rain or something similar. I have a .45 I keep in my drawer at my bed side with no case and my 12 gauge leaning next to my dresser in no case. I don't live right next to the ocean but it is humid here. No case required IMO.

Thanks! I like the under desk holster. Guess I'm over thinking it a little, the oil Leftover from cleaning should protect them.

Personally, I don't store my home defense firearms, which are also my self-defense firearms. Instead, they're always fairly near me (in the house) or carried on or with me (elsewhere).

My glock sits right between my wall and bed, so if I ever need it, no creaky nightstand drawer or creaky closet door between me and my gun.

*edit- I forgot to add I live near the ocean as well and have never noticed any extra corrosion.

I sleep on a futon. My S&W M&P40 sleeps right under my matress. My Blackhawk CQC paddle holster hooks perfectly on the bars. All I gotta do is reach down, pull, and the 40 is ready to go do what it was made to do. I am use to sleeping with a gun next to me. While my 40 wont let me play as much as my M249 would, atleast I am not rolling over and catching a chunk of steel to my head at night.....

many ways - unlocked drawer etc... though if you have young kids, you want to take safety precautions, ..consider quick-access safe or something maybe...

if you field strip and clean it every so often, leaving light coating of CLP/oil on things it should be fine... it's in an air conditioned space to begin w/ so you've got that going for ya..

X2 or if you have to get it out of the safe, my home defense weapon is my Mossey 500 short barrel pistol grip and that's under the bed within arms reach, my other guns are in the safe. Realistically if someone smashes your window or door in at 2am the last thing you want to do is fumble in the dark taking your gun out of anything! Mines I grab it, safety to off, and then chamber it which takes 1 sec to do.

I can neither confirm or deny that there might be a firearm in my residence. However, if there is a firearm present, it meets all federal, state and local requirements, and please identify yourself at the checkpoint down by the public highway before proceeding...

and once you hit the DEW line, we will know exactly where you are, speed and position. Who you are takes a bit more time and electronics.

And who will watch the watchers?

    stock, for now
should of bought a glock..I just watched a torture test last night on one, where the guy supposably buried it for 2 years, dug it up, and shot it with no problems. I dont think you will have to worry about corrision unless your house floods.

Stored in an unlocked gun case, inside a walk-in closet, it is chambered & ready to go. It is hidden behind a few things also, I have 4 kids. The closet is locked up while I am gone....unlocked while I am home.
