i thought we were in the 4 cyl section?:confused:

ever since i had my truck hawaii has had the E10 bs law...so ive been putting in ethanol blend gas...put in a tank of ethanol free gas once and it actually got worse mileage....so i'm thinking these computers learn pretty well to cope with the corn syrup in the gas lol.

If i recall, ethanol has a fair amount less energy to it than gasoline, 76,000 btu compared to 114,000 for gas. I'm not sure if that is why you got less, but its the only thing that makes sense.

ya you usually get less mpg with ethanol, but its suppose to be cleaner and less stressful on the motor

Tried something different on my driving habits. Wanted to see what kind of mileage I could get from my 4 banger. Since the day I bought it, I was consistently getting 22.5 mpg while driving on the highway with the cruise set at 70 mph. At 17,000 miles my average went up to 24 mpg. My truck is all stock. I aired up the stock Dunlops to 40 psi, always shifted at 2500 rpms, coasted to all stop signs and red lights and drove 55mph instead of 70 mph to work just to see what a difference it would make. Filled up today with 473 miles on the odometer and 17.5 gallons of gas for a new average of 27 mpg. I know I could have went over 500 miles on the same tank, but I don't like to go that low because of sucking trash from the bottom of the tank. I always try to fill up when I am at 1/4 tank. Slowing down really did improve my mileage. I even did better than the window sticker saying 26 mpg on the highway.

    Speed kills.

My morning commute is generally running around 70, 45 minutes.
My afternoon commute is the same distance (duhh), 60-90 minutes.

    I generally get 24-26.

Went to Texas a couple of weeks ago. Speed limits from 75-80 once I left Commiefornia. Heading there I was averaging around 22, I'd start looking for fuel around 250-260 miles to be safe (rather have an extra fuel stop than walk).
On the way home, I used 9 gallons from Tucson to Quartzsite and comparable from El Paso to Tucson... but the actual MPG was only slightly improved until California brought my speeds back down.
I should say that I've never seen my low fuel light, and I've never put more than 15 or 16 gallons in.

My old '94 was similar. It would generally run around 22. Trips to Oregon on I-5 were down around 18 pushing speeds to 75-80.
On a trip from Vegas to Tucson, I wasn't sure what the "tolerance" was with Arizona Highway Patrol on the US highways (still posted 55), so I stuck right ON 55 all the way.
I got 33mpg from Vegas to Phoenix.

I haven't checked mine in a while but getting 24-26 mpg is way better than i get with my dinky 4 cyl.

That is pretty good mpg considering the conditions.

Higher pressure in the tires while driving in rain and snow is *NOT* a good idea.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
Some data on a earlier Toy pickup fourbanger...my 94 Toy pickup, standard cab, 4 cylinder, 5 speed and 205/70R14 tires, same height as the stock 195/75R14 got between 28 and 29 miles a gallon at highway speeds on summer gas, winter gas went down to 26, and by the time the motor hit 200k, it was down to 22 mpg. Not too shabby...
