I have two deals on the table that are basically the same money.
The guy I have known for a while came up a day late on the Prius V deal I just did for my wife. Picked it up tonight.
He is not Toyota, but his Auto group has Toyota and he says he can find me a black d cab sr5 (I want the better ride over the TRD)
BUT. The dealership I just got the Prius at HAS a d cab SR5 with the right options and could deliver tomorrow. Also is $500 ahead on the deal, BUT it's white. First two choices were black and magnetic grey metallic. I know for the northeast the white is probably a better choice for dirt and salt. I also don't know if I am comfortable waiting for what I HOPE will be the truck I want. I have seen the white one, and I'm ok with it. Making a deal by noon tomorrow so any input quickly is appreciated

Well it sounds to me like the white one is the way to go if you are short on time. Can't beat a sure thing.

I'm not short on time as much as its a $500 better deal, and I KNOW all the options. Nervous that if the "we can find it " truck does not come through right that I am back to square one, and pissed off

and there is yet another reason to go with the white one. That idea that maybe they won't find another truck that you like soon and if they do will it be at this same price?

And, with either deal, to undercoat or not??? I'm not buying the "environmental package" but may consider undercoat. Thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the undercoat? So I can't give an honest opinion. I can make an assumption thought, would assume it is for the winters/salted roads where you live. And simply based on that then I'd get the undercoat unless you have a different aftermarket option.

don't you just love the way dealers put urgency in every deal? as is stated above, at 30+k, find the truck you want with enviro pkg and go from there. in other words, get the ONE you want.

I want to see the actual spec sheet if I am going to wait for one. I'm just not comfortable putting a deposit on "we'll get you whatever you want"

Maybe I'll just put the brakes on this whole deal. I know I am getting a 2012 D Cab long box... Options and color are my only decisions. I'm off Friday so I can go to a couple dealers and look at what is ACTUALLY on the lot, or see a spec sheet in front of my face before I give my CC numbers over the phone. I trust, "I'll get it for you " guy, but it still makes me nervous. $30k IS a lot of money no matter how I look at it.

    Thanks for all the opinions...

I wouldn't rush a decision like this. If they have it now, they'll have it on Friday, if not, they'll get it for you. You can't seem to eager otherwise they know they've got you.

Personally, I'd go for the undercoating. I didn't and wish I did. So far my 2007 is holding up well but it's starting to show signs of spending 4 years running New England's salty roads.

Also, I'm not sure where you heard that the SR5 rides better... The SR5 and the TRD Sport have the same coils and I believe the same shocks. The TRD Off Road has progressive coils and might actually ride a bit better, the TRD Sport has a thicker sway bar than the others so it won't roll as much in corners. It also has larger diameter wheels so less sidewall flex and possibly a slightly rougher ride because there is less tire to absorb the bumps.

I read it about the ride after I had driven a D Cab longbox TRD . I figured the ride would be better than my FJ with 10 ply BFG ATs and the offroad package, but it wasn't. Read that the Bilsteins and TRD suspension while far superior off road, are not as supply on road. Since I am not really an offroad guy anymore (did 8 years of Jeeping on 5" lift, 35" MT's and fully locked front and rear) I am really more for the ride quality for the 95% of the time this truck will be ON road. The SR5 did actually seem better mannered on road, especially in bumpy corners at speed. Placebo effect? Was I expecting it to be a better ride? Maybe?
I know that I don't like the look of the TRD BRIGHT chrome wheels... don't like chrome much anyway- personal preference. I also don't want the steelies... SR5 with the optional alloys looks good, and I like the color matched flares. Convenience package only just won't cut it. I gotta have intermittent wipers and color match...

Remember, just about anything can be added aftermarket now days. Some items are a lot cheaper to add from the factory such as color matched accessories, but many can be added aftermarket and much cheaper.

Go with with the vehicle you know with the right price. A salesman made you a promise he could find you one, he is doing what salesmen do...go with the good deal with the options you want...

I really am most comfortable with seeing, driving, touching the actual truck before I fork over a deposit and sign a deal....
White is sharp looking and probably much easier to keep looking good for the longrun considering northeast winters and salt and sand

Leaning hard to the white now... I agree, the aftermarkets can be added pretty easily and there are always deals to be had if you search
