    ********UPDATE!!!**************
I finally pulled the trigger on a 2012 DCSB TRD Sport 4x4 w/tow pkg and Entune

Ok, so when I bought my truck I thought to myself, "I don't need 4x4. Insurance is more expensive and gas mileage is worse. I only want a truck for hauling and towing." Well now I'm SUPER into trucks and expedition camping. Almost done with my M416 build and I figure I better get a 4x4. I have equity in the truck and could afford for my payments to jump from $360 up to almost $500.

SO.......What is the opinion? Should I do it or no? I'm probably going to do it either way, and the decision will be mine in the end, but I like to get input either way.

Side not: I prefer the Sport over OR. so thats why there is no option for that.

It would be more than nice to have 4x4 while expedition camping... I voted yes, because you can afford it.

I would also look at used 4x4's with low miles.

INDEED INDEED. Although I have never gotten stuck in my prerunner, because of knowledgeable driving techniques and the LSD, I am worst case scenario kinda guy. And at the risk of sounding like a nerd/crazie, I am a bug out guy. And my bug out plan works in phases...
Phase I: Take truck and m416 trailer w/RTT.
Phase II: abandon M416 for gas consumption reasons.
Phase III: Abandon truck and take my mountain bike and my Bug Out Bag
Phase IV: abandon bike and hoof it with B.O.B

If you need 4x4 and can afford a new truck, go for it.

I can also agree with this, as well. As much as I like my Tacoma, I'd never buy one again right now. Maybe after a complete redesign but I have a thing against buying the same exact vehicle again as a replacement.

Yeah, but I LOVE MY TACO. I just HATE that I didn't get 4x4 at the time.

I bought the truck you're looking at brand new (but white) and haven't looked back on my 07 since. It's a great truck, I recommend it. And nothing beats the "new truck" smell. :D

Thought about it. Just not a feasible option since I use my truck for hauling my motorcycle and other stuff a lot. I'm gonna get a Supertop Bestop for either my current truck or the new one, if i get one.

Why not get a specific truck for off roading and keep your current truck? Buy something used for 2000 ish and build it.

That was the plan for awhile....get a used, beat up, but running great Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 4x4 and just turn it into an OR vehicle. I know how that goes though, another money pit. I already sink money into my truck and my motorcycle, I don't need another pit. Plus I dont want to take up all my garage and driveway room. I would rather just get a daily driver 4x4.

I appreciate the suggestion and input though.

That makes sense. Fair arguement too. Just means that there are less people in Texas looking for a beat up XJ 4x4 :D

Do it. Sounds like you'll be much happier with a 4x4. I traded in my 07 Pre OR AC and I haven't looked back either. I kind of wished I had waited for the 12's, but then again, a new redesign will come out and I might want that!

I traded in my 07 OR prerunner for an 11 OR 4x4 tx pro...you don't know how much you need the 4x4 until you have it. the prerunner was pretty unstoppable, but the 4x4 is in a whole other league
